5 year old bike

My wife was just about to buy this for our 5 year old son's birthday:

I stopped her at the last second and told her not to (but I'm not sure why).

Would this be suitable for a 5 year old? My wife thought because it was close to the ground with big tyres, it would suit him nicely (he's been riding a balance bike for last 2 years).

But for some reason I think this could be a bad option. Plus the handlebars look too high.

It's a stunt bike. Does your 5yo ride half pipe or skate parks regularly? If not, it's the wrong bike.

I got the byk 350 for my boy when he was 5, its light, simple & robust. A 5 yo will outgrow the bike long before any part wears out & the only thing you need to be careful of is rust. No need to spend a lot of money - I picked the 350 up from Gumtree for $50 + a new chain due to rust. Gumtree search for byk

Absolutely another vote for Byk. Not cool for teenagers, but great bikes to get started on.

Mini BMX aren't sized for little kids, they're more for BIG kids

They ride crap if you're hoping to sit on the saddle, that "seat" is mere padding to prevent your butt hitting the wheel miniX riders ride them on the pedals.

Could be fun if you've got a Pump track to ride on.

They're crazy expensive for what they are...


For kiddie bikes ByK has good name locally, but most brands offer decent 16" or 20" too.

Though Kids at kinder seem to value pictures of cartoons &/or superheroes on their bikes more than a fancy brandname...
