A new bikeway is coming to Belconnen. It will upgrade cycle paths in and around the town centre, including linking educational institutions to the east, and the former busway to the west.
We're seeking feedback on the initial bike path design. Help us finalise the design by:
commenting on the map below on alignment and where key facilities should be located
attending a drop-in session on Sunday 3 June from 10am to 12pm at the Belconnen Arts Centre
completing a hard copy survey at the Belconnen and Kippax public library branches.
We are looking at:
The Belconnen Bikeway will be a 4.7 km bike connection, connecting the Belconnen Town Centre with the University of Canberra and other key educational institutions and providing connectivity to western suburbs.
The Bikeway will provide an efficient, safe cycle facility and pedestrian paths to separate cyclists from pedestrians and vehicles, making the Belconnen region more “cycle-friendly”.
The Belconnen Bikeway preliminary design is presented in five sections with each section having its own unique urban and landscape character with user needs that require a different solution.
The Benjamin Way connection will provide 750 metres of protected bike lanes from College Street to Emu Bank including safer crossing opportunities at key intersections.
Check the 'Detailed alignment and design' tab for more information on what's being proposed and detailed designs on each section.
We will use your views to:
Feedback received during this consultation will inform the development of the final bike path plans.

So, the Belconnen bikeway has been announced about three times in the last couple of years. Every time I pick up one of the ACT Gov Belconnen info flyers it is re announced. And its not even designed yet? "Utopia" really is reality TV.
Glad they are finally doing something but I hope they take notice of the design suggestions. What ACT Gov are proposing (other than finishing the lake loop) won't achieve anything. There are no connections with existing paths or routes. The design suggestions seem to address this. Lets hope its a proper consultation.
