Articles for the Checkpoint magazine?

I've heard that the latest edition of the Audax Australia's magazine Checkpoint is still waiting for more articles before they can go to print. If you've got any stories or wisdom to offer then maybe have a shot at sending an article or photos in. Details for contributing are on the Audax website.

I've seen tech tips articles, 'my first Audax ride', ride reports, banter about upandcoming rides. Whatever works, the sooner people contribute the sooner I get to read it. And I'm not writing a 'my first Audax ride' story, I have enough trouble remembering the 80's.

I know you resent Jan Heine & Grant Petersen because they can make a living writing crap about bikes .... and you don't. Let your inner scribe out. I know you've done it before for Checkpoint.

Inclined as you are to keep finding holes in your tin foil hat you can always use a pseudonym. Richard Twain or Mark Bachman... something like that.

Wouldn't you reckon that someone who has done over 1,000 posts here, (let alone someone who has done almost 5,000), would be able to knock together a great article, if not a series, with a few great photos from the archive vault, then we could all be very grateful, thanks. (Noting my trivial number of posts, gets me out of the frame for now)

So my Auturm edition arrived today and if it wasn't for the budget I would be curled up with in right now but will have to wait until tomorrow. Contributions for the Winter edition close on the 15th of May so get cracking with all those articles now.

Checkpoint magazine would be a very hard magazine to write to, as you have many different people who ride many different distances, and accept theirs as normal.
Audax Australia, to me, an every day cyclist, seems to be a bit of a secret society, and it seems, in some ways, that if you don't cycle a certain distance, then you aren't really with the "in" crowd. Even looking at their website, there are many rides that seem out of reach to the average enthusiast rider who can only really get out on the weekend for a decent ride (perhaps more 50/100km rides).
As for ride reports (probably a totally different matter), it really just takes a couple of photo's from your camera/phone, and a one or two page report for the magazine, and you are in print. This not only goes for Audax Australia, but any cycling club's magazine, be it in print or on-line. Give it a go, I'm sure every club of any kind would love an event report to remember to enjoyment of the event, and who knows, it may encourage someone to take up your passion for your sport.

I have an article brewing regarding a 'big' personal milestone that I'm on the verge of achieving - can't let the cat out of the bag, just check out the next 1 or 2 issues of Checkpoint...

I'm an "average" cyclist, bit of MTB, bit of exploring. I did my first Audax this year after getting excited at the thought of riding somewhere new. I did the 100k Gippsland Gold and can honestly say it did not feel like an "in crowd" thing at all. At least half the people I spoke to were new to Audax and very few there were doing the 200k route.

Everyone was amazing, I have never ridden in such a diverse and welcoming bunch of riders of all levels and the Audax crew that organised it were absolutely brilliant. There was none of the bravado I've seen around other organised rides, it was a fantastic day on the bike and a great bunch of people and I cant wait to get out on another one.

If I get chance at some point I might try my hand at penning an account of my ride as a newbie to Audax but I would suggest anyone contemplating doing one, give it a go, don't let any preconceptions about the club put you off.

Edited to add - there was every conceivable type of bike imaginable too, road, CX, tourer, tandem, MTB's, pretty much the whole spectrum.

I enjoy that aspect of Audax, and the diverse types that go along with the bikes
