Noosa Strada Bianchi 8th & 9th August 2015

The Noosa Strada Bianchi is on again on the weekend of 8th and 9th August.

It's Gran Fondo in the vein of the famous LÉroica. The rules to enter are simple, a steel framed bike with down tube shifters and the expectation of enjoying the company of like minded riders as you experience the mix of tarmac and dirt roads though the beautiful Noosa hinterland.

Last year we had well over 200 riders participate in the Picolo (35kk on Saturday), the Medio (85K) and the Gran Fondo (130K) on Sunday. All the rides commence at the Noosa Marina. After the Picolo on Saturday there is the Show and Shine and swap meet where you will see an amazing array of steel bikes from the just found in the tip to exquisitely rebuilt treasures. Did I forget to mention there will be a Meet and Greet on Friday night for registration and a dinner on Saturday night in preparation for Sundays rides.

Should have my "new" Abeni Special built up ready for this year, and my brother will be on the Dawes Shadow he used last year.

If anyone's keen, i'm doing a ride this sunday which goes over some of the NSB roads. The route map doesn't include detours to the Black Mountain and Mt Wolvi lookouts, so it will actually be up over 190kms, but there's plenty of bailout points. 7am at Kin Kin.

How is the steel bike prepping going? Only 5 weeks left to find those missing bits and get your fit sorted.

Mine is still a work in progress but it's up and rolling. It had its shake down last weekend and performed admirably. Image

I'm waiting on the delivery of a front and rear Gran Compe centrepull quick release cable mounts. I'm thinking of replacing the 42cm wide Giro d'Italias for 40cm. Going to swap the black Brooks Team Pro for my honey coloured one. I'm also still hunting for an early generation Campagnolo Super Record twin bolt seat post in 27.2mm.

Getting there. Entry is in. Unfortunately my back is buggered ATM. With the school holidays and that I haven't done a hill in a month. It could be a tough 130km this year.

2nd coat of primer on my Abeni today :) . Anyone got a cheap pair of "square" (think 600 Arabesque) cranks? I've got plenty of 80s Exage cranks but i think it would look better with some older ones.

I did nothing special Foo. Got out of a chair in the Smoko room at work and the lower back just went. I think the problem was the really cold morning. We had frost on the ground at my place when I left at 0440, and I pushed a bigger gear up the hills to make up for my lack of hill efforts of late. When I got to work I stupidly sat down straight away and I think that was my undoing.

It is getting better but it's not great. I'm going to hit up Campbell's Pocket road tomorrow and see how it goes.

Singlespeedscott. Glad to see your back didn't slow you down at all on Sunday when you blitzed everyone. Were you on a promise or something? :D

It wasn't the plan. I wanted to take it easy this year but ended up with a few guys who where going a steady pace so stuck with them.

And this gives a good idea of the sorts of numbers turning up now. Hard to believe it started with 16 only a few years ago.
