I don't know that he married that particular woman, but we do know that subsequently he did marry some unfortunate woman. As Thoglette alluded to, that relationship reportedly went bad with wife chasing him for some support for her and child. He also sold up his car and went AWOL against bail conditions once with a girlfriend, returning when the money was gone..

I wonder how much of his screwed up life is a result of the pressure he put on himself when he did a runner a decade ago. Sometimes life is a fairer and more severe justice than the courts.

He stole his flatmate's passport to get out of Australia. In the trails to get him back he is calling Australia racist. Was it a Caucasian who stole that passport?

When TF is this matter going to be progressed?

I check at least a half dozen times a month. To my knowledge there has been no movement - no court appearances - since early September 2021 when a temporary stay on his extradition was granted which, a couple of weeks later, became an indefinite stay.

If anyone knows otherwise, pls post here.

I am in no way defending the driver's decision to flee, but the fact that she returned shortly with a male friend makes me wonder if she was worried about being lynched by the witnesses around the tram. I understand this is fairly common in some Asian countries. The decision to grant bail seems insane.

One of the conditions of bail (read it) was that passport was surrendered.

To bring the thread back to its original topic, the potential punishment for the driver may reduce the flight risk. Unlike the PP case, the victim here has not died yet, nor have I heard claims against the driver about excessive speed, driving under the influence or other forms of disregard for public safety. I would be surprised if she copped a custodial sentence. Along with the scarcity and cost of airline flights (likely more than the fine?), I don't think this case is comparable with PP.

Yes I noticed that quote and thought the same thing. There should be some type of aptitude test so that people like that can have their license revoked *before* they kill someone. Overtaking a stopped tram on the left while they're taking on passengers is not an accident, it's a blatent act of dangerous driving.

I hope that they don't allow the "my Tesla made me do it" excuse as a mitigating factor. There are no currently fully autonomous cars in Australia, and they all require driver supervision anyway, so it should be no excuse at all.
