Anyone know what's going on with that and for how long? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to ride the same route 2 weeks running without more diverisons / road changes?!

Aparently there are some loose glass panes that have to be checked and/or fixed.

The "official" path is the one that goes around the arena. The one behind is there courtesy of the arena management. As I understand it some people were quite astonished that it stayed open, seeing they had just spent $$$ to build the other one.....

Thanks for the info CycleSnail - any idea when this is going to be sorted? The front path is significantly more dangerous than the rear one (half-blind corners, road crossings, pedestrian interactions etc).

The corner of the freeway ramp and Wellington Street is a bad one - blocked visibility and fences which protrude into the path.

The bike racks for the Arena are also blocked off due to this. I asked security where I could lock my bike, they didn't know, so I chained it to a tree.

What about these ones - November 2012 - they must still be there?

Or, are you referring to the dozen located around the back which we can't access now as this section is closed?

But

I hit the bike rack jack-pot, located in the lower car-park:

Red-Rider, just ask the Security Guard to put them back where they belong.

There are also around 5 racks actually installed in the lower car-park (they must have missed them when they hid/removed the others), which may be better than using that tree.

Hmmm, seems like they are going through some teething problems. I will check out the car park ones.

No-one tell rodneythellama, the loose ones are located in the car-park.

From MRA:
WELLINGTON/MILLIGAN STREET INTERSECTION WORKS
7 APRIL-24 MAY 2014
From 7 April to 24 May, new power cables are being installed within the intersection of Wellington and Milligan streets. The following additional traffic restrictions will be in place at the intersection:
Access to Arena car park will be ‘left in, left out’ on Wellington Street only
Cars heading east on Wellington St - no right turn onto Milligan St
Cars heading west on Wellington St - no right turn into the Arena car park
Cars heading north on Milligan St - no right turn onto Wellington St, no access straight into Arena car park
Image
On Arena event days, a two-way traffic arrangement along Market Street will be in place to assist with post-event traffic exiting the Arena car park. This will allow vehicles exiting the car park to use Market Street to access Wellington Street via Sutherland Street.

Additional traffic management is anticipated to be in place for one week in early May as follows. Advance notice will be provided for these works prior to commencement:
Vehicles heading north on Milligan Street - no access to Wellington Street. Use Little Milligan Street (left turn only onto Wellington Street), Hay and Murray Streets
Vehicles on Wellington Street – no left or right turn into Milligan Street

I wrote back asking what happens to cyclists using this intersection - no response at this time.
Image
May be part of this work will include traffic signals to allow cyclists to legally ride across at the same time as the pedestrian crossing - I suggested to City of Perth last year - they said no.

These have been reinstated.

I gave blood these evening, and made the mistake of riding back this way, not knowing there was a Wild Cats game on. Lots of red shirts to match the blood given.

There was a 'pedestrian crossing' over the William St road works, but how long it will last is anyone guess. No response back fro MRA on my questions last week.

Be careful using this area guys, this morning there were quite a few cyclists coming VERY quickly around the corner of Wellington St/freeway off-ramp. It's already reasonably narrow as is but now also has a bunch of roadworks signs blocking ~1.5m of the path so be wary of oncoming cyclists taking the corner too fast and ending up on the wrong side of the path.

The path behind the Perth Arena was open when I rode home last night.

Apparently it is not a shared path, according to feedback from some of the correspondences I have had recently.

The symbol in your first photo means it is indeed a shared path :)

Yep, this morning riding in it was clear and open.

Hopefully stays this way now!

Anyone else getting tired of the non-announced closures around the Perth Arena?

What work is continued to be required on the Perth Arena, to justify at their will to close this PSP?

I assume its in preparation for Motley Crue and Run for a Reason this weekend? Or am i being too kind?

Whats the warning at the western end like?

Semi-related: the "shared path" across the railway is horrendous at the moment with the barriers seemingly in a different position each day. The other day you could barely squeeze a bike through.

You are being too kind. The photo was taken week beginning 4th May, which had a sign up indicating 'closed 06:00 Monday 4th to 15:30 Friday 8th May'.

Path then has been closed at least once a week (and I'm being generous here).

The HBF set-up started around Tuesday 19th May, and was no-where this section of the PSP. But I didn't ride this section today, so maybe it has today :).

Was open again this afternoon. Appeared to be cleaning windows using a wide cherry picker...

This section of the PSP closed again this morning.

Pretty sure it is not to clean windows, given that I don't think there are any windows on the north side of the arena.

Leaks would be my guess. Decent rain & wind in May

I didn't cycle today (in fact I rarely get the chance at the moment) but from the train this morning, I noticed it was closed yet again with a cherry-picker parked up ready to do something.
