Thanks, I had been told many times to sell it, because you won't ride it again and my answer has always been the same. Go have sex with yourself.
Bequeath it to your grandchildren! And grandchildren to their grandchildren. And in 100 years this bike will be worth a fortune :D

Fat lot of good that money will do me.

Will look much better when I restore it to original.

It aint my bike and I don't have history with it so that may colour my thoughts. Not trying to offend the history buffs anyway.

Were it mine I'd try some modern wheels and a new groupo with shifters in the levers.
Bigger range and more convenient to use.
New wheels and groupos are just so much better than the old stuff it'd make me want to ride it more.
Understand that may not be the case for many but I'd be interested to hear how it rode with new stuff on it.

Looks great anyway 8)

I've run a10sp rear modern wheel on it and it is no quicker and that 40yr old rear changer, does cover the full range of cogs, so I don't need no new group set.

I've got some 50mm tubeless carbon goers that beg to differ. ;)

That short cage derailleur aint going to have the capacity to cover a 52/36 32-11 combo either and ya gotta move your hand placement to shift too.
I like to climb but like a quick bunchie too.

Anyway glad it is going and you're enjoying it :)

Hi all, first post here....
Been getting into fixing up old bikes recently and was chasing some 20" rims and went to buy an old cheapie modern bmx from someone on marketplace for the wheels plus some road bike wheels she had with a couple of old frames. She offered me the lot (4 bikes altogether) for a cheap price so I got them all. The old racing bike was crusty but I thought it may be good for some parts. It seemed altogether so decided to put the wheels back on it and pump up the tyres which surprisingly stayed up! The tyres looked original and were cactus so I later replaced them and the tube with new ones. The chain was rusted solid so I freed it up and oilled the whole bike up and gave it a bit of a clean up. It seems very nice and very light. I don't know alot about it besides it being some French Giante made bike. Anyone know what kind of year it may be?

Hi all, first post here...hope the photo works :)
Google photos are a bit tricky to link to. The first problem is that the url comes back as 404 which is usually because the photo & or album is set to private

Nice looking Gitane (apparently pronounced jee-tah while chewing on a baguette.)

Without seeing the details (and knowing nothing about Gitanes) I'd stab a guess at mid 70's.

Hi All,

This is a Dutch RIH Cove` touring bike circa 1972-74. Beautiful bike to ride and it has held up amazingly well for its vintage. I'm posting here to see if anyone has seen anything similar in this vintage and make in Australia. Sure, it's not a pre '72 but I'm fairly sure it's very rare in this part of the world. Can give a lot more details on the running gear (Huret, Weinmann, Luxe etc) if anyone is interested. I've had to look far and wide to research it and am told it was a very early precursor to the RIH Cove "Speciaal" in the Netherlands and must have been built shortly after Cove`took on the license to use the RIH name ('72) so must be circa 73 (have more detailed pics of the decals but posting one pic here is a bit of a trial). I don't know how many riders in Australia would even know the brand. Currently doing my best to restore it (just meaning reverse some neglect at this stage) without being totally invasive.

Best,

Velo

Most of my bikes I build as perfectly period correct as I can, for my collection or for show / display, and I don't ride. They just sit in a showroom. I started building this with Campag Chorus 8 speed parts, then changed my mind and decided to put some Record ergolevers on and ride it. Its size 55, my size. I put later version Chorus skeleton brakes on it instead of monoplaners. The white tyres and bar tape were bought when it was going be display only, not very practical for riding. Mind you Im only travelling short distance quite slowly. Basically coffee shop posing. The La Fausto Coppi saddle is reasonably comfortable , again, it was not meant to be on a rider bike. But its ok.

Nice Derns - Campy 8 speed approved!

Who made Coppis (of that era), or were they a marque in their own right?

Mate I dont really know. Fausto originally rode for Bianchi, then he wanted his own brand. Apparently Fiorelli built them for him. Fiorelli 1954-1990, then Masciaghi @1990 +. Giovanni Pelizzoli was the designer for Masciaghi.

Hi all

First time posting here but I have been inspired by a number of other builds on this forum. My recent build was based upon a 1983 Gordonson from Perth, specifically a Gordonson Aero. It was in pretty poor shape and the paint was tatty but the frame was straight and rust free. So I painted it myself in Ardennes Green, which I know is not a classic 80's colour but is actually the colour of my fathers old Range Rover Classic from 1993 and I thought it might suit my design well. From there I have used a mixture of parts such as a Campag Record headset, FSA Gimondi cranks, Cinelli 1A stem and Giro d'Italia bars, Brooks saddle and bar tape and Aussie made Velocity 27in aero rims with Novitec hubs. The only original part that I used (besides the frame and forks) were the pedals, which are Shimano Adaemus cos I think they look great and fit my large feet quite well. It is setup as a double sided single speed with 16T and 18T cos it's damn hilly where I live!

Would like to post a pic or two but can't quite work out how. Any suggestions? Looks like using an image hosting platform is the answer but I haven't joined one yet - any preferred ones? Or can I post an image direct from the forum?

with braze on Front mech and the internal cable for back brake, I reckon @1990. But only guessing.
And yes RIH are one of the coveted Dutch brands, very collectable. I dont have one but would love one. May have to settle for a nice Gazelle.

Cant post direct, you have to use an image hosting platform. I use FlickR. Easy to upload an image from the computer, copy the img code, and paste into the box here. Im a tech dinosaur and I can do it.

For simplicity I recommend postimages.org. It is easy and you don't need to sign up. The upload process is self explanatory. Once uploaded, for each image you want to post there should be a little "share" symbol under it. Click it and select the "direct link" and copy it. It is important it is the direct link. On the BNA forum in the post you want to insert the picture in use the code

Code: Select all

So are you leaning more towards Fiorelli or Signore Ciocc?
