Hi
Causal Cyclist put me on to a podcast series, Couch to 5k, which is a running interval program. I tried out the Week 1 podcast this morning on the bike, cycling hard when it says to run. The program is written for running so first week consists of a 5 minute warm-up, one minute interval, 90 seconds recover, one minute interval (repeated six times I think, maybe nine times) and finally a cool down of five minutes. I guess the later weeks would be more intense, maybe longer intervals etc.
Anyway, my question is, are short intervals like this okay for cycling training. I am really training for endurance, general improvement in cycling performance and for sprint and hill points on the Saturday group rides .
Thoughts?
Regards
Andrew

Different interval duration train for different performance objectives, so there's no such thing as "not ok". The key question is, what's your objective. If none, then it wouldn't hurt you. At 1 min, you'd be doing all out within each interval segment.

It won't kill you as a change up to the routine but I can think of more productive ways to use the time.Aushiker wrote:Thoughts?

Okay, thanks and thanks Sogood for the graphic. I should have added that I did this as part of my commute ... so killing two birds with one stone so to speak.
