Trainers

Postby giantrock » Mon Oct 26, 2009 4:05 pm

Just wandering (for all those that have a trainer) do you find that using your trainer helps you to get fitter and strengthens your legs. I have been doing around an hour on the trainer and that is doing a warm up, sprint training, unclipping one leg and then swapping to the other leg. I did 2 sessions of around an hour and went bunch riding and felt that I road a little stronger. Though still struggling on hills a little. Will this help me out or not?????

The question is; do you plan to ride up those hills with one leg clipped in :?:

I don't ride one legged through out this training sessions. I unclip and use one leg and do 30 reps on each. Just trying to build them up without relying on the other leg being their and getting a better circle happening. I normally do sprint training which I try and spring for a minute or more and then I do cadence work

Why don't you just do the same with both legs clipped in? Twice the training efficiency in the same time? Or do you prefer to be less efficient with your training time?

Yes, if used wisely it enables you to do beneficial workouts that you may not have otherwise been able to do (due to weather, light, time restriction, unsuitable terrain etc). I use mine regularly for these reasons.

No. Leg strength is not affected by bike riding (unless you are untrained). In any case leg strength is not a limiter to endurance cycling performance.
