training through injury

Postby jules21 » Thu Oct 22, 2009 1:02 pm

does anyone have advice or experience with training through injury?

i've got a slight scoliosis which places imbalanced loads on my legs. i suspect as a result primarily of other sport (i.e. basketball), i've strained one of my achilles tendons. i've had a fair bit of physio, and he reckons cycling is a low risk activity, so i've kept riding and it's been feeling a bit better. but the other morning while battling a gusty headwind it went 'twang' on me again - very disappointing.

i've tried sitting out injuries but it's so frustrating and my physio reckons this is overkill, that i should just work through them at reduced intensity. i find that difficult - if i'm out there i tend to want to give it heaps.

i'm riding to work at the moment using a lower gear and being overtaken by others, which i find difficult :)

Are you riding for health or for life supporting income? If the former, then rest and let it heal properly.
