Resting Heart rate.What's yours?
Postby brauluver » Sat Apr 18, 2009 9:05 am
As my fitness has increased with a return to cycling and pushing out a few more k's per week without too much extra effort, I've been monitoring my BP and heart rate.
Did some reading about resting heart rate as a guide to indicating fitness level, and took mine.
Was a little shocked to see it was 49.Pleased but surprised.
I've checked it several times over a week to be sure and it's always 50/51 after sitting idle for 5 mins or so, and 49 when I wake in the morning before arising, which is when it's recommended to take it.
The figures I'm returning are considered to be in the athletic range.
Just curious as to what some of you others are at with RHR.
i realise that there are many factors to measuring fitness via HR both resting and during exercise, and that resting heart rate is not a definitive measurement, rather just a basic guide.
cheers Dave

Haven't checked for a while but I took my pulse while sitting at desk the other day at 48, so I guess I'm getting back towards my typical fit levels.

Love it! I hope you didn't swear at them too much.Alex Simmons/RST wrote:When fit, I am ~ 40-42. I have seen high 30's when in hospital which is always fun cause it freaks them out. I broke a foot once in a crash but they admitted me as a cardiac patient every few minutes I'd set of their alarms. All I wanted was a decent painkiller for my foot.
Cheers,
Graeme

On the slab doctor asked if I did a lot of cycling...shaved legs and very low HR...shock probably helped lower it even more. But then commented on how it suddenly went up once the police officer walked in and started having a go at me...Dealer plates only NZ license after 3 years etc etc...oh well I lived!.

talked to cardiologist (im a cardiac nurse so wasnt as a patient) and he doesnt seem worried ..... also told me that if he sees me dying on the road he'll know that i have reached my max and shoudnt have gone so hard up the hill ---- he is also a keen cyclist and said that 190s are fine IF you have no chest pain before/ after the ride, during the incident and can continue riding as per normal .... how that for HTFU?

A miss use of the phrase I'd say.rmgrimes79 wrote: .... how that for HTFU?
there are those with HR max in the 150s and those with it in the 220s+. HR Max has absolutely no bearing on your fitness, nor how "hard" you are.
riding after a HR max reading is not only normal but more than likely a sensible thing to do.

My RHR is 46. I have had the same probs with super low heart rate in hospital (after a motorcycle accident) where they all freaked out. I dont know what my running/riding HR is. I am looking for the right HRM atm.

Similar thing, but mine was around 42/44. Kept having to check manually when the machine beeped, despite me still being alive and eating !!!!Unko wrote:Just got out of the hospital today. every time they took my blood presure and BPM the machine beeps if your HR is below 50.
