A new Pushie

Postby Peddler73 » Sun Nov 24, 2024 8:38 pm

G'day all,
I'm looking to buy a brand new bike, in the price range of $400.00 to $700.00 or thereabouts.
I'm 5'7''/170cm tall ,weigh 85 kg , only ride on paved surfaces and am looking for an upright style bike with road tyres.
Can anyone suggest a good quality ,sturdy bike that would suit me ... I want to keep it for a few years.
Thanks friends .. Charlie .

Something like this may suite you Charlie, you'll need a Medium frame going by your height, they have good sized 700c wheels and can fit up to a 45mm tyre size but they come with 38mm which are good as well. Mechanical disc brakes which are easy to adjust yourself and you can put a rear rack on it and a set of panniers if you wish to ride a bit further.

G'day Brumby,thanks for your response ..
Well,here's the story.
I bought a second hand bike off facebook marketplace on the weekend.. a Monvelo mountain bike (which no -one has ever heard of) .It looked the part and for $80.00,I bought it.
Got it home, the wheel bearings were badly out of adjustment, the brakes didn't work, the tyres were cracked and the gear selector wasn't working properly :( .The problem was my fault entirely... I should have looked closer.I adressed these issues and went for a ride and didn't like it at all.
So I thought just go out and buy a new one, hence my post. The bike shops in town (50ks away) had an Avanti Discovery 1 and a Giant Agressor for about $750.00.which sounded OK.
I had to take some stuff to the local Mens Shed his morning and saw a few restored bikes there.
One was a Dunlop Scout for $40.00,it had been serviced and looked good.
So,the result of a visit to the shed, was a purchase of the Scout for $40.00.I went for a test ride and it felt really good.
The Monvelo and another bike I had, were then donated to the Shed ... All are happy campers :D .
Cheers Brumby ..
