10 speed to 11 speed

Was looking at changing my old giant to 11 speed. I have been given 11 speed wheels, 11 speed ultegra shifters and 11 speed rear derailleur. Will the original 10 speed front derailleur work with 11 speed shifter. I was given 2 11 speed fd but both are clamp on. I need a braze on one.

In short, yes it will. There's technically some slight differences between 10 and 11 speed, but given you're probably running a 10 speed crankset anyway by the sounds of things it won't make any differences to you.

They're normally quite happy running an 11 speed crankset with 10 speed cassette and vice versa. Shimano of course will tell you it's impossible and you will die. But that's because they like to sell you stuff.

Thanks for that. I intend to change the cassette as well. I have changed the crank it was 53/39 too big for me. Now 50/34.

It'll be bad. FD leverage & pull stroke was significantly changed from 10 to 11-sp, giving a longer cable stroke to cover basically the same chainring space. The short-pull 10-sp. derailleur will hit its top limit while the shifter is hunting its intermediate trim shift points. Front derailleurs are a comparitively inexpensive component, so just stump up for one that will work.
