Does anyone know?

Postby KentLowe » Mon Jan 29, 2024 4:53 pm

Currently, I ride a Miyata 414 splined triple-butted steel frame with Shimano 105 gear, weighing around 13kg. I've acquired a frame better suited to my dimensions and am deciding whether to transfer the 105 components or stick with the Miyata. Does anyone know the weight of a bare Miyata 414 frame or frame/fork combo? The Miyata rides well, but the dimensions are a bit long for me. Depending on your input, I might have a Miyata 414 frame/forks for sale. Thanks!

According to some posts here the frame is not all that bad, about 2.5kg for a 56cm frame, but the unicrown fork weight is pretty crazy at about 1.1kg. So about 3.6kg all up for a 56cm frame.

Can confirm, having possessed one, the unicrown fork is a real boat anchor on these. Why they put the hideous unicrown fork on these is anyones guess.

By way of comparison:
Shogun 1000, Tange Champion 2, 61x55, 3.15g.
Ken Evans, Columbus SP/SL?, 62x58, 3kg.

Those are big frames, nice tubes. The triple butted Miyata tubing is not that far off those. Lose that porker fork and you'll notice the change.

But if it doesn't fit or is uncomfortable, swap to the new frame you have and give it a go.
