I love that Pogacar said what he was going to do before the race. Everyone knew it was coming. But there was nothing they could do about it!

I was hoping for an outside win by Degenkolb too.vosadrian wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 9:54 amI was really enjoying the race, and it was looking like it was going to be a great finish.... until Degonkolb got pushed over..... and TJV worked out they had a bad tyre supplier. I was secretly going for Degonkolb... but it was pretty dissappointing to not see WvA vs MvdP go to the line together as it was looking like it was going that way before the puncture.
And as ever at Roubaix, gotta pay the puncture fairy early and lots

For sure a lot of luck comes into it, but when both TJV riders have puncture issues (2 from la porte), and none of the Alepecin riders did (was there 3 in the front group?), you have to question the quality of the tyres being used.
Of course there was all this talk before the race of pressure adjustment system TJV were going to use... so it is not like they were not trying for the best solution, but something got lost in that. Maybe the pressure adjustment caused the issue?
It did seem WVA had the legs to put up a fight. I predict if he did not have the puncture, MVDP would have gone with him, but not pulled turns confident in the knowledge his sprinter team mate was in the chase group and would have the best chance in a larger group finish. He would then have been in best position for a one on one sprint against WVA.

if i'm not mistaken, only Laporte was running the pressure adjustment system, not WVA.
The system adjusts pressure, but in this case, the tyres wouldn't even hold the pressure so it was pointless.

I see Chris Horner did a bit of an analysis on this on youtube. TJV had 2 riders which experienced 4 punctures (2 each) in the group of favourites in the last 100km. Alpecin had 3 riders that experienced 1 puncture between them (Phillipson). It could have been just typical hell of the North bad luck, but he pointed out they had issues with equipment last year also (broken wheels etc.), so probably more than bad luck.
