escooters NSW

Postby mikesbytes » Mon Jul 25, 2022 8:00 pm

With escooter riders being fined upto $2.5k for riding an escooter on public NSW roads despite them being legal in most other states, it wasn't looking good for NSW escooter fans.

Now there's a 12 month trial starting in 4 locations which sounds like will all be parks ie will be novelty toys, however councils have been invited to participate and 39 councils have expressed interest. Video does waffle

Privately owned e-scooters are banned during the 12 month trail due to safety concerns. So private scooters are more dangerous than rented scooters?

Not really but the rider is, the government has a greater opportunity to track track down the scooter rider when they hit someone if its a rental while doing something stupid or stop it being modified to travel at much higher speed.

Plus rentals may have 3rd party liability on them. I wonder how many private ones do? The recently posted thread about contents insurance shows some policies exclude e things.

Doesn't seem to be a problem with private scooters in other states
