GRX 12spd wide crank on gravel bike with XT Di2 11 speed hack- can it work

Postby cancan64 » Tue Apr 19, 2022 9:17 am

Snapped the crank shaft on my gravel bike yesterday and no Ultegra cranks in the country or GRX cranks. All I can find is a Sram Force wide 12 spd (after 46/36 2x or there abouts).
My bike is a blend at the moment so wondering if by a miracle anyone knows if I can run the Scram wide 12 spd crank with XT Di2 front derailleur (the Ultegra crank is spaced by 1 mm for the FD to work so thinking the extra 2.5mm of the wide crank may work better on the gravel frame. Rear is 11 spd XTR di2.
Hopeing to get the bike working before I have to start cancelling rides... a pai no spares in the country

Should work OK, the XT & XTR FDs are designed for the more outboard chainline of MTB cranks anyway. Only real unknown is the spacing between the rings of SRAM vs Shimano; it might muck up the fine trim tuning in some gears if there's a decent difference.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
