help finding brakes for a single speed cruiser bicycle

Postby euphi223 » Tue Apr 12, 2022 6:03 pm

Hi guys! Hope everybody is covid safe...the bloody pest wont get lost already! :x

Anyway, i come here seeking assistance on fininding suitible side-pull caliper brakes for a single speed 'fixie'. Ive been repairing all sorts of bikes for many year and never ran into this particular issue. I just bought the bike s/h for $10, it needs work but who am i to say no to a $10 bike. ITs got large 700 Clincher type wheels and double sided rear hub. The space from the brake hole to the rims braking surface is about 47mm, which is very small compared to an old racer/road bike. Ive got no idea how it came new....dunno the brand because no stickers on the frame.
Really need some help because im stumped at the moment. Thanks in advance, really appreciate it.

any side-pull road calipers should work. I'd go dual-pivots over single pivot any day.

I've used these on a road bike I rebuilt, but looks like they've only got fronts in stock:

or try these if you like/can tolerate green:

Do you need brake levers? if so, get something that suits road calipers or cantilevers (not V-brakes). What style of bars do you have?
