Hey all,
Im looking for a "trainer only" bike for my wife to use with my existing setup to avoid fiddling when switching bikes.
I have a 10sp cassette setup on a wahoo kickr core for my roadie
• My wife is 5ft tall
• Prefer flat bar though not essential
• Must be compatible with my 10sp cassette
Im assuming xs womens frame, 48-50cm? with 10sp groupset , though have seen that 9sp sora/tiagra fits 10sp
I'm thinking a flatbar cross city commuter bikes might be the go (giant CRX or similar)
Have a few hundred to spend, as not sure how much it will be used etc...
What would you look for? Recommendations? Advice?
Thanks

A trainer bike for your wife eh? Sounds like a fair trade.
I’ll see myself out.

To run on a 10-sp. cassette, the bike in question will need to have a 10-sp. shifter to get the cable pull right. 8, 9 and 10-sp. cassettes are all pretty much the same overall width; to fit the additional gears in they're spaced closer together. The matching shifters pull different amounts of cable between each index point to suit.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

The question is not overall height but Pubic bone height
ie frame size is mostly driven by seat-to-pedal height
Given that you don’t need to actually ride this thing anywhere, a cheap step-through (eg Reid) in the smallest (700c* ) size you can find would do nicely.
If it runs 7sp road a little BF&I will get an 8/9/10 wheel in a steel frame. I can’t talk to aluminium (but I do own a set of metal files )
How much shifting functionality do you need? (My only experience with trainers has been the single-speed variety.
You will need a 10sp chain to fit the 10sp cassette
*strictly speaking the kickrcore will work with just about any wheel size but moving from 700c means you may have more “fun” matching the frame to the 130mm OLD hub.
