I care even less about the semantics of the irrelevant discussion above and the faux offence taken by some over being quoted with a few words missing for brevity.
Of all days, on International Women's Day, we all, especially us blokes, need to understand that public space is different for women, it is more threatening. As Family Gy said, we shouldn't have to, but it remains the case that, we just need to be a bit more considerate of this fact.
Screw the semantics and just give women more space so they can ride in peace and not feel threatened, oh, and add a few escape routes. Is it really that much to ask?

I can't say I've ever ridden that closely to women, I think at the most it's just overtaking safely and keeping going on my way. Can't see why anyone else wouldn't do the same.DavidS wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 9:47 pmI really don't care about the background of the person who made the statement about women needing an escape route.

Nope, I will. This tunnel thing whilst a grouse piece of engineering (I’d hazard a guess that the designers were after the wow factor, nothing else) hit me between the eyes as a trap waiting to be sprung when I first saw it 5 years ago ( it’s not new). There is and will be the ground level existing pathway which is 90% cyclists so I’m not sure the ladies nor I am being left high and dry tho.
FWIW there is a similar situation on the Gardiner Ck Trail where the cycleway/path is suspended beneath the freeway, while open it still has no escape routes bar jumping off it. Never heard complaints about that one. Maybe cos it’s open?
Oh, on riding behind random Women. I used to stay a long way back if the cyclist in front was my speed give or take based on the need to be not seen as some kind of perv. Now I do it cos I understand it can make some feel uncomfortable. It was about me, now it’s about them. If I can evolve anyone can.
Anecdotally.

But I think it's a nice bit of publicity either way.

That's the rider's leg which is in shadow, and the bike is either belt driven, or the chain is encased, with an internally geared hub in the rear wheel. Expand your browser zoom to 200% an the details become a bit clearer.

Second one was way better, first ad was ok but I thought they overdid it with the lycra.

Yeah they did, as one of the panellists said about the yellow lycra.
I am a roadie so understand the anti lycra sentiment to which they were trying to appeal.
Not everyone wears lycra though, so yes dumb.
The bit where the driver hit the cyclist at the end was powerful though.
Second one just appealed to everyone growing up as a child cycling, yes much better.

Agree about the end of that first ad, the cyclist on the road was stark and powerful. Was the money shot and it was good, just the rest of the ad was not as good.warthog1 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 11:05 pmYeah they did, as one of the panellists said about the yellow lycra.

For a stuff-all 2kms anyway, peddles only would not be even cleaner, it would not occur to her?

She is the Danish queen, not some random 2GB listener and is known for riding around.
Prince Frederik takes daughter Josephine to kindergarten on his cargo bike... but how many laws would he be breaking in Princess Mary's native 'Nanny State' Australia?
