Second hand alloy road bike under $2000

Hi all,
I'm after advice/recommendations on a particular model of bike I should look for a budget of under $2k?
I'd like to use it on my smart trainer (to save my carbon frame), but maybe use it in a crit if I decide to get into racing later on?
An aggressive geometry is ok as I've been doing a lot of stretching.. mechanical 105, with rim brakes would be good.. am I dreaming wanting a cadd12 that's 4-5 years old? Allez sprint just as good? or any other models that can be recommended?
Thanks

Don't have one but I do have their older rim braked equivalent that they no longer make.
Used to commute on it. Now on the trainer.
Tiagra 2x10 $1629
105 2x11 $2118
road.cc apparently think it's ok

Trek Emonda ALR is only 2700 new, so should be able to pick one up second hand for the dollar price you are talking

The only way to spend more than a grand on second hand aluminium is if it's virtually brand new. $800-900 would be plenty to get just about anything. Just keep your eye on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree, the best buys will get snapped up within minutes.

Any 5yo or thereabouts Giant Defy would be easily within budget, leaving you spare $s to freshen it up.

Both the Allez and the CAAD are good options. I would also consider a Merida Scultura 400 if you can find one. Geometry is somewhere between a race and endurance bike.

Canyon Ultimate AL. The older AL8 has been my crit bike for 7 years now and I
will no replace it. The newer SLX was discontinued in 2017.
Giant TCR SLR, discontinued in 2020. Was the best bang for bucks race bike out there at the time, seen plenty of races won on it.
Bowman Palace probably outside your, budget if you can find one. New frame $1250 + shipping & GST, but if you want an alloy crit bike, this is stunning.

If you are happy with second-hand, you will find a lot on offer... but as suggested much cheaper still for an Alu frame. You can get some new carbon with 105 for this price... so you should have a good chunk of cash left over.

Take a look at the bike for sale groups on Facebook and you'll have no trouble picking up a decent alloy frame roadie for under $1000. I did the same last year when looking for a dedicated bike for my trainer.

Update: I ended up snagging a Caad 8 with 105 groupset off FB marketplace for $700
It came with a few extras (pump, saddle bag, flat pedals, cages etc) which I won't use and have sold them for nearly $100.
The seller never rode the bike
the drivetrain was almost spotless.. so an almost new Caad 8 with 105 groupset for $600 makes me very happy!!
I'll get some upgrades including aero wheels, handlebars, carbon seatpost & stem if/when I get into racing. But should do me well on the smart trainer until then

Thanks for the update... spot on with the price. If it is aluminium alloy, then keep in mind that the sweat can cause corrosion over time so you want to look out from keeping too much sweat dripping onto the bike... perhaps even light oil on accessible bolt or coating some light oil on the top (to help them ward of moisture).
Happy cycling!

Great, thanks for letting me know. I’ll definitely keep the sweat off now

If it’s on a trainer, just throw a towel over the top tube.

Nicely done! I picked up a 2009 Giant Defy a month ago, swapped the bars and stem to suit my preference, and put new bar tape on. Rides beautifully, far better than I was expecting for an aluminium frame with entry level running gear.
Total- $102.50

There have alot of option for this price range like
these Tommaso Imola Endurance, SAVA HERD T800, Schwinn Discover Hybrid etc. But SAVA HERD T800 seems premium to me from all of them. A lightweight bike made of carbon fiber material. It is equipped with special tires and wireframes to add to its lightness.
