Thought on MTB 29inch forks- hard to really hard suspension
Postby CousinLarry » Sat Jun 27, 2020 6:11 pm
My forks are too soft. I’m a heavy rider And my forks spend 100% of the time locked out. Can anyone recommend forks which won’t break the bank but supply a hard to really hard ride? Or at least are adjustable to really hard?

How much do you weigh, exactly? My suggestion would be to get some air sprung forks. You can up the pressure until you get the kind of ride quality you want. Typically you set the pressure to achieve 25%-35% sag, and this will be enough to stop it blowing hrough the travel. If not, you can add volume reducers to the iar chamber so that the required compression force ramps up harder towards the end of the fork's travel to stop it bottoming out. Does that make sense?

What fork do you currently have? There may be some scope to tune it.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

I just bought a Manotiu Markhor from Aliexpress for < $300. It was a massive improvement over the previous coil fork.
Comes with either straignt, or tapered steerer tube.

It's an air spring so you need a fork pump.

What he said. I’ll also add: what bike? and: what riding style/terrain?
Maybe a rigid fork would be better if you are mainly on road.
