Rydal to Oberon - feedback requested

Postby fenn_paddler » Thu Jun 11, 2020 12:05 pm

Hi, My daughter and some friends are considering a weekend cycle tour from Rydal to Oberon (and return) in the next few weeks.

They'd be staying the night at Oberon, then returning to Rydal. The intention is to camp (fit panniers to a flat bar road bike).

Is anyone able to advise if this is a safe route, and is it particularly hilly or otherwise difficult for a relatively inexperienced rider?

This is a rough idea of the planned route: https://flic.kr/p/2jaKU1M

That is a extra nice ride at this time of year and (riding during the day) I would give it a safe rating > Would I let my daughters do it? Yes very much so. Will be a bit of a test in parts but the hills are not that long if they need to push up. It may be /will be very cold camping out if they do so next to the fish river. Pack extra socks and layers and I hope they have a warm-ish sleeping bag. Tell them no need to rush.

Thanks baabaa that's really helpful.

You're right about the weather - it was -2 degrees at Mudgee last weekend and felt freezing, even in front of a fire!
