I wish to publicly apologise to Mr Purple's partner for future bike spending
Haha!

Aren't we missing one of those money spending topics from the old days... So far I've been lucky to have not needed to do bike related spending.

Picked this up second hand earlier in the month. Only just got around to taking it out for its first roll today.

70km, all on the road mind you... won't be touching gravel till my jaw is healed.

First time on a Cervelo, first time using SRAM, first time with 12 speed, first time with a 1x on the front. Lot of firsts.

It's an absolute weapon.

Latest build now complete!

1996 Mk1 Colnago C40 with first generation Record 11 speed groupset (except the f/d which is 2nd gen Chorus)

The colour has grown on me (this frame looks better when built up than naked) and the ride is smooth, comfortable and great for riding slowly and smelling the roses!

As bought this weekend. The only change I've made was to rotate the bars up a tiny bit, then tilt the seat back a little since the photo. Looking forward to getting some km on it. Feels like it fits nicely.

I wanted one of the Speciale single speed frames for ages but the 58 were scarce and the 56 wasn't a fit I could live with. The CX and randos were more common, I've gone close to picking one up previously. This popped up as is, with the nice bits on it and in real good nick, so it was almost a no-brainer.

First brand new bike in about 12 years. Specialized Aethos Expert. Ultegra Di2 12 speed. Very happy with this lightweight gem. Got a pretty damn good deal too thanks to John at Canberra Cyclery.

Thanks mate. It is a 56, although the Specialized website had me at a 58 when using the silly knee to below ankle measurement!

Such a shock seeing those, they look so old school in stark contrast to everything else. Kind of like the classic Cannondale Super Six Evo.

I like the lack of branding stickers all over it. Much cleaner without them.

Yeah same. I went for a ride with another 5 guys on the weekend and no-one knew what it was. I like the Aethos for the simplicity of maintenance and lack of proprietary parts! I don’t race, only train for fitness so I’ll take lightweight over aero every day of the week.

True. I’m thinking a new version is due as the original Aethos was released about 4 years ago and the line hasn’t changed really. I got a deal on this I couldn’t pass up. I really like the roundish tubes and classic seat stays, such a simple design.

Eek!

For what it's worth I prefer lighter bikes too. Ultimately you have to ride the thing so as long as you are happy with it, that's all that matters.

It's a disc brake version of the Cervelo R5CA of 13 years ago.

This the current favourite ride from my stable.
Love it for its awesome efficient pedal platform for a big enduro bike. It's also pretty light for an enduro bike.
