I compared the geometry of the 2024 Defy and TCR with my 2017 Izalco Max and the reach is all of 3mm shorter on the Defy, though the stack is 26mm higher. Interestingly the TCR is 5mm longer and 13mm higher.

I suspect it won't make a huge amount of difference which one I choose.
+- 15mm reach isn't really a deal breaker, as there are so many options to change reach e.g stem size, different reach bars. Stack is harder to adjust for without either running heaps of spacers or aggressively angled stems.

It depends on your starting point. If you are already running a short stem on a bike with less reach than the Defy then it might be a deal breaker.

This is true.

I'm shelling out for a full bike fit prior to any purchase this time because while I can compare the geometry to my old bikes, I have no idea if that's actually correct or not.

Far easier to have something closer to ideal fit to start off with.

Yeah, if I was spending thousands on a bike I would be going for a fit first.
