I can now report that Assos summer gloves are great. They breath extremely well and seem to have the padding in just the right places (well for me anyway). I'll report back on durability in 6 months.

Only works if the gloves have a velcro tab. Specialized BG Pros and Castelli Rosso Corsas don't.
So I won't be buying some of them

Anyone know where I can get some nice retro fingerless gloves for summer? I have a pair of gloves made by Tuff which look like the old racing style gloves. Crocheted outside leather inside, white with a red and a blue stripe. They have been great but after a couple of summers they really are getting worn out. I'd like another pair of the same but can't find anything like them. I do remember finding them on the website for Tuff Gloves but can't find a web site for them at all any more.

All suggestions gratefully received.

They look good, might get a pair and see how I go.

Thanks

[pom_mode] never seen 3 finger gloves let alone tried (I must lead a sheltered life) my tip from living in the frozen wastes of the northern Uk for many years is wear a pair of silk liner gloves (runners and skiers use them) under the fingerless mitts...in pocket when warms up* [/pom_off]

*you might want to check that you haven't been relocated...it should be getting warmer in April!

Renascentia mortuorum: Fingerless Gloves

Since this thread was last interred, I've bought and been using the Rivbike gloves (the older padded palm Summer Glove, not the GOAT). Really good so far (two summers of use?)
Also purchased and used the GroundEffect Quickdraw gloves too, but I prefer leather (if not the post-covid post-age costs)

I haven't used fingerless gloves in 10 years I reckon.
Only wear gloves to keep my hands warm so they have full finger covering.
Sunscreen only on the back of the hands when it's warm.

I wear a pair of fingerless gloves from Bunnings, obviously not bike gloves but they are better padded than the last pair of bike gloves I bought and they were cheaper.

I use the Italian leather gloves from Galibier, they are very nice and I do prefer to wear gloves on a bike. Only pull out the fingered gloves when it is below about 8C.

Also partial to the gloves with a crocheted back, they are good for summer.

I always glove up for a ride; on the commutes more for "what if..." factor, and on the MTB because there is usually some prickly trailside vegetation that will be run into. I'm more tolerant than average to cool weather, so nearly always go short-fingers, but below about 5° or so I'll switch to my synthetic leather sailing gloves which are open thumb & index finger, the rest enclosed, but otherwise only marginally thicker than the regulars.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

I can tell you from experience that waiting for one’s palms to grow back is no fun at all

I'm gobsmacked by the number of YouTube cycling vloggers who don't wear gloves. It's an IQ test.

Fallen off with and without them.
No significant hand injuries either way.
I find it more comfortable without them.
It is less common for riders here to wear them in summer than not.
Ridden with some previously pretty successful competitive cyclists who don't.
Each to their own.

The ones I have at the moment are sort of black and white, but very similar to those ones. They have a lot of similar gloves and those look good.

The white ones I have had were these: https://www.galibier.cc/product/campionissimo/

Really liked the Campionissimo and the whiteness gets a bit dull after a couple of rides which like, don't like them too white. Pretty sure I have another pair waiting for current gloves to wear out.

It’s all about exposure to risk, like sunscreen/hats. If I’m nipping to the shops, no PPE.

If I’m going to be out for hours, PPE is applied.

Likewise “sports” riding is far more likely to have an incident than nipping to the shops.

I don't train or race without a pair of mitts on or go for longish rides on bike ways without them neither. If you've ever torn the skin off the palms of your hands, you'll never want to go through that again. :(

I must admit I never ride without them. It just feels weird, like I'm missing something.

No preference for brand either - I have three different types and they're all fine. Though I do find the less gel the better now, it did help at the beginning. Before the callouses.

You soon get used to it. Pretty soon it is uncomfortable to wear them.

Yeah me too, in 35 yrs of regular riding I have had a few falls and did dislocate a finger in one of them. Wasn’t wearing gloves, but I don’t think that gloves would have made any difference.

I do sometimes wear gloves, but only in the cooler months, May till September.

And I usually have a few pairs of gloves, and inevitability one pair is favoured because of better comfort or appearance, but with time they stretch or one of the pair mysteriously disappears
And riding with mis-matched gloves goes against “the rules”
Riding without gloves also might have been mentioned in the rules, but that was some years ago now and I too have noted that these days, a number of riders in the pro peloton do ride without gloves.
