Only if they charged you shipping, otherwise it's under the $1000 limit :-)

Shipping is $80 - so i would assume you'd get slugged GST.

Petie, i just grabbed one, will shoot you a PM.

I've been waiting to get some cleats, and don't really need anything else at the moment to get the $80 or $100 no shipping threshold that many places offer (yes, restraint!!).

Cheers,
Simon.
Bikebug. Free shipping at $49.

Not sure what cleats you are after but I bought Speedplay cleats for $49.95 and got free shipping. Free shipping was express post meaning I got my cleats 1 day after ordering. Pretty good by my standards.

You should be fine.
1070 New Zealand dollar is only 950 aud. they go off Australian dollar equivalent.

no, they use AUD on the site, and what is listed there is what your card will be charged (i just checked my statement from my last order). there is no option to force NZD either. this also appears to be exclusive to AU site.

edit: removed misinformation

edit followup: yeah i had it confused, if it's over 1k then the shipping costs are also taxed, if under 1k, then it's not counted. source: customs site

I don't believe that GST is payable until the value of the actual goods exceeds $1000 (excluding delivery). Once the $1000 limit has been exceeded then GST is applied to the total costs which comprises of 'value of goods + delivery cost + applied duty'.

Do your own research though.

It includes delivery. If the sale price + delivery + currency exchange = more than $1000, you pay GST + any import/customs fees.
If drivers and riders spent more time worrying about their responsibilities than their rights then roads would be far safer.

this might be the case in practice. but i can't see anywhere where it says shipping is included in the definition of 'goods'.

but ATO says otherwise:

We'll need to disagree because I maintain that delivery cost is relevant only when the low value threshold is breached by the cost of the purchased goods excluding delivery. :D

You're forgetting the S in GST. Delivery is a "S"ervice.

The best way it was described to me when I was caught once.

The govt wants as much money as possible. Therefore shipping is included.

Then they will charge a customs fee to administer the gst charge then get is charged in product shipping and the customs charge. That my friends is our govt.

I once imported a frame from Canada that costs $970 + shipping ($120). What the customs did was they sent me a letter via Auspost to furnish my import declaration but wasn't charged anything even the total amount was more than $1000...

I second this. Only recently found bike bug, but this free express post is unreal! I'm definitely paying a premium for that in the future!

Spot on as I found out on ordering in a caravan mover from England. Value around $2500-00 they added the shipping into the final figure. No surprise to me as I had included that in my final figure. Speaking with the customs though they indicated that on stuff like $1000-00 specialty items they check selectively, over a two week period to see if another part comes in that was a breakdown of the original purchase.
ie, if another part comes in purchased from the same store and is a part of the same purchase as they perceive it, they do go after that person. Maybe a camera and a lens....machinery...?

Any way in my case they even phoned the dealer in England for verification that I was the purchaser and a valid customer as they had never seen the goods I purchased before and suspected it was a part of something maybe sinister. Of course English VAT was missing so no problems.
As a courtesy the dealer rang me and notified me of all the goings on. Any way all ok in the end. This is just to say strange things must go on in the minds of the protective customs people.

If you're after some indestructible 700c disc tandem wheels these are very nice and dirt cheap.

Thanks Isabella. Just after some Shimano cleats, but I might have less problems finding only another $30 to spend. Funny the lengths we go to to get a "bargain"!
