immediately i thought to get a garmin watch for the occasional (but likely to become frequent as i travel to south america w/o bike) trail running/jogging etc.
the fenix 3 struck me as good, but NO MAPS. then the maps version epix, is ugly and bulky. and TBH i doubt i'd use maps that much on a watch anyway. seems like a pain in the butt. maybe just preloading planned courses on it is enough.
then i though the 920XT will do fine, bit ugly but the screen seems bigger and clearer for numbers (i'd probably just glance down once in a while for HR).
now i'm thinking bugger it, i hate running, so might as well just get a garmin edge 1000 (which i was going to hold off for a newer model that should be due soon?). but the MAPS would be handy as i plan to do some serious cycle touring across SE asia. even though i have a quad lock for iphone mount, offline maps has always been a pain.
NOW i'm thinking of getting a edge 1000, and 920XT as well (because of teh discount).
can someone please shoot me?

atm in the rare occasion that i do run, i am resorted to holding the garmin 510 in my hand. it feels stupid. i'm sure there's a wrist strap for it, but again, silly.

Maybe me and my spare Garmin 110 could solve your problembattler2 wrote:yeah but it's just not cricket. i actually want to see my HR when i run, and maybe do some of the other fancy stuff runners do. like splits, intervals and all that rubbish. i also don't want loaded pockets when running, who does? bouncy bouncy.

Have you looked at the vivoactive? Cheaper than any of your other options. currently deciding not to get a watch yet, and delay it, as i won't be doing any serious running until maybe as far as late next year. prices should be significantly lower by then. think i'll just keep holding my 510 in the hand.
have a more immediate need for the maps on the 1000, with a major trip just a few months away in countries where cell coverage is likely to be crap. + i'll use my current 510 as a backup so strava misses nothing.

yeah i paid 330 from c r c thinking that was a good deal, got a 2nd pair for 260 from pushys. thing is, if i'd waited i could've got another $20 off, as they released a code that had sidi as an exclusion, but it still worked (i checked). now i'm kicking myself (in my new sidi shoes).2ndeffort wrote:Some awesome prices at Pushys for Sidi shoes. Carbon wire vernice for about $270, most B&M shops have them for $500 and c r c about $450 I think. Colours and sizes are a bit picked over but worth a look if you are after some Sidi shoes.

There is a wrist option you can use, I have one: http://www.wildfiresports.com.au/garmin ... r-310xt-ed" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Just need a watch strap and off you do. The only thing is that the Edge is rotated 90 degrees, but better than in you pocket.petie wrote:Have you looked at the vivoactive? Cheaper than any of your other options. As it happens I'm looking to sell mine as I now have a 910xt.

Agreed. I did see it this morning and it stated that price expired on 1st Sept. Yet it increased the price.squeakywheel wrote:That's interesting. I looked at it this morning and it was $80.
