Very much so, that is where I fail in the end. I have a plan going into the race and for some reason I keep changing that plan, which comes off bad. If I stuck to the plan I would do much better. So you don't need to be the most powerful, just the smartest and best of whoever has made it to the end of the race.
I know Walter. Very smart and powerful rider. I believe his age is deceiving indeed as he was a very competitive A grader and a track rider in his younger days. There are not a lot of B graders in Penrith that can outsmart him i reckon.

I only hit low 50's in the sprints. Something I've been working on. And damn winter! Just bought a Kinetic Road Machine at lunch time.

Isn't it just tactics at the end of the day? It may not be etiquette, but etiquette isn't actually in the rule book.aeroslavebigbelly wrote:snedden9485 wrote:Yes it is racing, but their is ettiquite to follow IMO. Sprinters will NOT take a turn at the front, this will sap all there energy making them useless in the sprint.
In the races i enter i go to the front and put on an attack here and there, surge or 2, sprint out of sharp corners, i know that after a decent turn a minute or 2 in the draft and i am fully recovered again ready to do it again. My aim is to drop as many sprinters before the final lap as possible. If i can get rid of 5 or 10 sprinters thats 5 or 10 less people that can potentially beat me. I know that i am a bad sprinter and need more practice, so i need to emply a different tactic to the sprinter. If i just sit in the draft for the whole race, sure i will be fresher at the end but so are the 15 sprinters which i will struggle to beat.

I got third.
I have hit 60km/h plus on velodrome.
Have hit 63km/h at Easterb creek raceway.
Generally about 50km/h for sprint at heffron depending on wind direction.
As for the coments about not taking turns not being ettiquette its a race. You race your race I'll race mine. I will take a turn on the front but i slow it down people get pissed off then they go round me. Thats my tactic. Most of my race tactic is to be there at the end.

Anyway, I was on the front for most of the race, went with every break away attempt. Also did a big effort on the last lap putting 200m into the field (fruitless in the end ). I finished 7th(ish) basically because I had burned too many matches. Don't really mind though, I wanted a workout as well as a race so I am happy with my ride.
I think the guys that only showed up at the front when they attacked had the right idea. But as far as a work-out goes that would have done nothing for me. I think if you want to win and nothing else you should hide as much as possible and only arrive at the business end or to create/bridge a breakaway. I am quite happy to accept that I was out raced today. I actually found it takes serious discipline to sit in and do nothing, it was quite easy to find myself working on the front for no apparent reason!
This racing gig will take some practice.

didnt see you there Mr Hebden. I rolled around in C grade with Mr cooms and about 25-30 other crazy dude, still well and truely sick my Goal was just to finish. Yep, you guys in B grade looked like you were having a picnic, we caught and then passed you, i think then you passed us, then we passed you again and eventually we got away from you ( ithink thats how it went ) We averaged 37.9km/h for 60km (12 laps). I had no intention at all to contest any sort of sprint so ended up finishing with the bunch and happy just to get to the end really. It was good to be back on the bike though.Hebden wrote:I raced today, first time in 9 months! It was slow, I think. B grade at Penrith avg 35.9 for 70kms?

Yeah C grade was cooking today, there just wasn't enough workers in B to keep the pace up. Totally understand about hanging in there, sometimes that’s all its about.
Will look out for you at the TT on the 19th!
oh, and back on topic; 52 was my max for that race, must have been on my break in the last lap. Definitely not in the final sprint.

It's a sprinters job to only put their nose into the wind when it counts. If you don't like it, then attack and get rid of the sprinter. It's a race, not a social outing.snedden9485 wrote:Yes it is racing, but their is ettiquite to follow IMO.
