I'm liking the wheels.
I know disc wheels require more spokes and have a crossed pattern to deal with braking forces imposed at the hub.
They have tended to be a bit ugly to my eye.
That G3 spoke pattern looks great and is the most elegant disc brake spoking I have seen.

Ceramicspeed OSPW I think. I’ve seen them but never used them on a derailleur. My bike has some Kogel ceramic pulley wheels - but they are normal size. They spin so easily. Compared to the standard SRAM ones, those SRAM ones may as well have had glue in them. Crazy difference!

It is a beautiful bike though, it did catch my eye.

If money was no object then an SL6 S-Works Tarmac (don't like the look of the latest crossbreed SL7 Tarmac/Venge thing, plus it's slightly) heavierwith disc brakes and Di2. Maybe a custom paint job too

Agreed. I have an old S5 team in black. I still like it. Not a fan of the new goers. There are a few here. Doesn't look better in Sunweb colours.

No no, look closely - that’s my saddle and my Garmin. It's brand new.

It's a tiny bit lower on the front than my Canyon CF Evo, but otherwise the fit is nearly identical. It's a fat thing, 7.82kg.

Not my cup of tea with the handlebar/stem set-up but he likes it.

Hey, it's no trouble - bikes are personal things. I've had my eye on the S5 for a while. At first I whinged when it was disc only - but that was when it was new. Now the time was right (and the price too). I've always liked the very clean and somewhat science-fiction look of the new S5.

I've seen this particular Sunweb style S5 before in a small size frame with a fast rider on it. Our little group of four moved along extremely fast that day.

I rode just over 80km on that bike today, it is very fast. It's like a TT bike on flat sections and downhill. I don't have a power meter on it yet so I don't know what power I was putting out and maybe I also had quite fresh legs from two days of no riding, but it does really fly. It was damp conditions today as well and the stopping ability is great. It corners well too.

Unfortunately going uphill isn't so great - you can't hide that it is around 1.4kg heavier than my other bike.

Now I begin learning all the idiosyncrasies of disc brakes. Now they are dialed in I'm loving them.

What's nice is that some third parties are solving these bottom bracket irritations, press fit bottom brackets that screw together (BBInfinite, WheelsMFG) for instance. The S5 I got a few days ago I was initially wary about, I was particularly wary of the stem/handlebar setup, but it's actually adjustable and the brake lines don't go through the bars themselves, just in a recessed section underneath the bar, that's a better way compared to the old P5.

CyclingTips should also offer an alternative to the podcast for people who don't want to listen to the podcast.

The latest horror show seems to be brake lines running through the steerer tube. Looks great, hard to work on and the hose is probably wearing down your steerer tube from the inside until one day you die.

One crazy design I saw was taking some of the space from the fork steerer (not oversize) for the cables which then required a metal insert to strengthen the fork steerer. All so the cables could be hidden.

They have tons of written material, news and reviews and opinion, and the podcasts complement that nicely. I don’t listen to all of them, nor all of every episode, but it’s good for passing the time on the trainer.

The main podcast is weekly, plus there’s the fortnightly tech podcast and a fortnightly podcast in women’s racing. Also the regular “from the top” interview series (haven’t listened to these myself). The news podcast has been discontinued, the daily news is now written only.
