Yes, and it was absolutely fantastic to be back on the bike today.

I'm on A/L so no commutes for a few weeks.
Getting as much bike time as the GLW and her "paint this-and that" mid reno frenzy allows.
...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

I am pleased that, while the last three weeks have been difficult (ankle problem) I have worked back to doing the sorts of distances that I normally do. I still have a little trepidation but I can carry that with me as long as I doing what I want to do.

Yes there are sometimes legit reasons to not cycle. But it's just so hard NOT to.

Work was quiet so took the chance to take my first week of annual leave since 2nd was born. That means first week of not daily commuting this year. Aim to finish pool fencing and assemble a cubby house and sand pit and hang shade sails, with only the children's Christmas joy riding on it, making diverted cycling energy seem justified, probably not honourable until I organise some Xmas gifts charity delivery to Good Sammys collection at work... There is a cargo commute excuse :)

Honorable reason, though I will not be using it too soon if I can help it: My GP yesterday gave me the good oil on my recent xrays and ultrasound and I have substantial osteo in the left foot. (I suspect the right is just the same.)

The good news is it is not rheumatoid anyway. Here's hoping the celebrex has some effect. Perhaps cortisone. There is never a good time to have surgery.

Colin - wishing you all the best for your foot (or feet) I hope you find a good method to maintain as mobility as possible.

hope it doesn't limit you from doing the things you love - not just cycling.

Turns out I have a slightly detached retina. Was caught at a routine OPSM checkup last week. I'm scheduled for surgery in two weeks. Until then I've been told not to do any strenuous exercise and elevate my heart rate.

I think long service leave is a pretty good reason not to ride to work... :P

And get hate mail - why don't you share some with me - caring is sharing you know.

Enjoy your well earned rest. (or your sore legs from all the non commuting riding you are doing.)

I've decided that if I can't ride in a normal speed I'll go 'European' and ride in wearing a suit (as long as its a nice day).

Took a week off after crushing my hand under a cast iron bath tub. First ride back today - it was so good. Didn't realise I was that addicted ;-)

Mild cold from last week turned into full blown viral stomachy thing the day before the Swan Valley Cyclo-Sportiff. Been driving the porcelain bus since. Drugs from the doctor (good old panadeine forte) enabled a decent nights sleep and feel on the mend- unfortunuately the bus is still in service.

Whilst I was working in Brisbane last week I thought I would not commute on Friday but go see the kids in the school parade and train in to work....Just got to school in time from a slow morning ride to find there was no parade that week, walked across the road to the train station to find the train was cancelled...and then coming home the train was packed when I hoped on it at Central (Cleveland line)...no wonder I commute.

God i hate public transport... first time in months had to catch the bus in today.

My honourable reason... new bike being built at home, transferring my groupset over to brand new Ti frame. Need an external bottom bracket cup tool so couldn't finish it last night. Killing me sitting here.. for 2 reasons; 1. knowing i could finish it within the hour with the tool, and 2. knowing i have to catch the bus home. :(

That's not honourable, you could have put all the gear back on your old bike? Surely?
