I was in Canberra for a few days and took the kids to Tidbinbilla. We went via Stromlo and noticed a fair bit of racing activity. On the way back civ cotter dam and corrins crossing, we came across a road block for more racing. Despite everyone else being turned back, we were waved through - could this have been due to all the cycling racks on the roof ?
It was a slow drive back towards Stromlo as we slowly weaved through the stragglers up the last few climbs. Just before the Stromlo turn off we hit the leading bunch. It felt kind of weird to be the only car not turning into the park there, and the police at the intersection seemed perplexed when we went straight though.
Cycling Aust's website said it was the national womens road series, but most of the cyclist seemed not to be women...
Certainly was an interesting drive back, and we felt like a TdF support vehicle, complete with some riders willing to draft behind us where possible . Oddly, they were wearing New Zealand kit - admittedly I did kind of make it easy for him as he;d been dropped pretty bad on the last climb..

Women and Juniors racing
It would have been the Junior men (up to U19's) that you would have seen.
There was a team from NZ who came across for the comp, so that explains that jersey.
As for the fact you were let through, the bike racks would have made a difference, simple statement, you should have been told to wait.
These things happen.
