So I guess the answer is more suffering, but what is the best way to go about this. I know there are other techniques and I find I can use some of these quite effectively, such as Self Talk + Goal Setting. Telling myself to hold onto that wheel in front, not going to get dropped, will finish this race, hold the sprint to the line etc seems to work. Its when I get to the front and have to suffer alone that I tend to pull up. I feel that I'm not going as hard as I can for as long because I recover pretty quick afterwards. Seems difficult to seperate negative thoughts & doubt from real pain. Getting anxious once in that uncomfortable zone to the point where it starts affecting performance.
Just a bit of a brain dump. Any particular sytle of intervals / training that provide the most benefit? I suppose this means I need to increase my lactate threshold.

its all in the mind young grasshopper
if you think "pain is good" then it becomes a whole lot easier. i have no special techniques or exercises other than trying to beat a PB - its making others suffer in the process and the feeling of euphoria and achievement afterwards that gets me through

With track training rained out tonight, it was an interval session on the rollers. I've avoided these for a while now. I practised my suffering and felt a lot better about it. Managed to get that floaty feeling for the last interval sprint after pushing through the suffering. More structure in my training is what I need, rather then just racing myself into form.
12 x 20 sec sprints / 40 second rest
3 x 4:40 min hard riding / 20 second sprint / 2:00 min rest

The only way is to train more and learn to deal with the pain. You cope better when you deal with it more often IMO.
