Forum Downtime (Jan 29) Update

Postby AUbicycles » Thu Jan 30, 2025 9:40 am

Thanks MichaelB for pinging me to report slowdown and downtime.

What happened...same old story, this time automated hack attacks that drain resources / capacity and puts it over the edge.
I have made some adjustments.. fingers crossed.

Thanks for your patience.

Yeah, it was slow for me the other day and I figured the site was being attacked.

What a pain this is.

Thanks for your efforts Chris.

For interest - bots can be a problem,. These were typically from search engines or 'scrappers' and googlebot was generally good, bing was bad as was the Chinese tencent as they would not behave and overload the site.

Right now, I see over 50% of bots from AI scrappers like openai (chatgpt) and expect the other variations like Gemini and DeepDive to ramp up... if they misbehave when crawling that is bad. But to think that this AI is also fuelled by the human conversations... if you ask chatgpt about helmets... could be an interesting answer :)
