Which came first the wearing of his vis or the obliviousness of its wearers?

Today's joy #1 involved an attempted dooring - no risk to me cause I don't ride in the door zone of death - but the oblivious moron simply threw his door open without a look or a care in the world.

#2 & 3 were engrossed in their discussion that neither bothered to look as they were about to step onto the bike path right in front of me. A shouted warning saw a startled jump with a look of complete surprise that they weren't alone in the universe.

It's not like this is a quiet area either - IIRC it's the 3rd busiest bike path in Sydney

Yesterday I got dressed for riding bit chickened put when it started raining. Rained all morning.

This morning was good weather. Riding up the footpath I dropped onto the road ready to turn right and the rear wheel reflector fell off. Decided to turn around and get it because I throw them all away off other bikes except the commuter. Unfortunately a car turned left and it had been run over and was in 100 bits.

This afternoon a minibus almost pulled out in front of me, but did stop. Then I got a good run along the busiest road. Timed the lights so I didn't need to stop, but did have to feather the brakes a few times behind traffic. Managed to get a rare green at the bottom of the hill, so got a great run though to the next roundabout with lots of momentum.

3 commutes for the week. First MTB detour commute since late April if strava isn't lying to me.

Taking it a bit easy, refamiliarising with the trails on the way home. Trails have definitely had some water and now lots of growth. Plenty of long grass and overhanging twigs along the way. The local joyriders have been busy too. One powerline easement had at least 7 burnt out car bodies on it when last time it was 2 at most.

Got a heart rate spike as something scaly and black disappeared into the scrub. Only half certain it had legs as I only really saw the tail.

Still, MTB riding home from work sure beats dealing with traffic.

Heatwave hot today. Morning still had cool morning air, but definitely pretty warm.

Afternoon was definitely in the heat of the day. Fortunately I was on the MTB and able to have a mostly shaded route home, and the afternoon sea breeze showed up a bit too.

Opened the garage door this morning to rain. Looked at the radar and it looked like it was moving so wasn't going to get wet for long. I was wrong. Pretty much rained the whole way. Then blue skies this afternoon

Mornings this week have been not half bad for commuting. Afternoons - hot and sweaty.

Of note: courier on the shoulder decided to reverse back a bit as I was about to pass. He wasnt close to the kerb so I had to all but stop to avoid being squished between traffic and courier. A roadie blasted past at the same time. I was on a trail MTB dually so no chance of keeping up.

Caught up to 2 e bikes on my dually. Stayed behind as I was about to turn off. No commuter cup points.

Spotted a rather large red belly black snake on the way home in the bush. Trail was wide enough to avoid it easily. Didn't stick around for photo ops.

Misty/drizzly light rain yesterday morning. Very humid, but cool.

Lots of sirens on nearby roads yesterday arvo. 2 unseen, then 2 police cars at full pace, the firies later. Turned around to see where the fire was and they pulled up out the front of the hospital - no smoke.

Two cars pulled out over the sharepath on driveways. Both turning left, i was travelling from left so they were looking the other way for traffic. First one went to move back, but I just went around the front before he did as there was no break in traffic. Second one stopped across the path and was looking down. Just as I got there he looked up and right (I was leftt) and saw a gap. I stopped as I wouldn't have made it around the front. Pain in the butt when they stop fair across the path and there's lots of traffic so you need to navigate around.

MTB bush trails home again thus arvo. Hopefully no sneks.

Couple of pleasant morning commutes. Afternoon were pretty warm and finished with a stiff headwind.

Got passed by a scooter this arvo. Could hear the whine and expected a fast MTB, but it was an e scooter with fat knobbly tyres doing probably over 40km/h as I plodded up the hill around 15km/h. Just after he passed seemed to get a bit of a speed wobble. Hate to get the wobbles at that speed.

Hot one today in Sydney. Got to work, had a cold shower, and was still sweating - so I stood directly under the a/c for 10 minutes before putting my shirt on. At least for the afternoon commute I can go straight from the bike to the pool, via the garage, to grab a beer.

what i do in those situations is have a hot shower. once finished washing, i go full cold. i'm hoping that the hot shower was long enough to expel the sweat. then the cool shower is good enough to cool me down so i can put a shirt on

Haven't tried the hot shower then cool it. Generally just leave 15min or so to cool before showering. On the odd occasion I've bot had enough time, I've showered, dressed then 5 min later broken out in a sweat again.

Yesterday the morning commute must have been 100% humidity. Warm, sea fog (mist) had rolled in and it was actually spitting rain. Took it easy, but still a sweat fest. It remained foggy until lunch time when the sun started burning, but the sea breeze had kicked in. Pretty warm on the way home, but not a scorcher.

Had to drive today. Thankful for AC while the car told me 38 degree for the trip home.

So many new year resolution walkers and joggers out and about with virtual L plates, like they've never used a shared path (or separated path) before. Not as relaxing this time of year riding as it should be
