Yes, but you can put them out.
Lithium, is just cooling the area, you can't extinguish.

I work with and train mechanics on maintaining/repairing large LFP powered machinery.
Small batteries are a bit different to 300 - 800kg of Lithium Ferrous Phosphate.
Sure it is harder to get burning, but when it does, walk away.

When doing cell pack recovery after over discharge, by bypassing the BMS and manually applying charge, we monitor with thermal cameras to try and detect any chance of thermal runaway before it happens.

We repaired a BMS harness the other week and I made the tech take it outside before we powered up. Was confident we got it right, but just in case :)
