good time to order some wheels from aliexpress (there's a discount code for singles day)
I've got a few 25mm tyres to get through so I think I'll use the existing wheelset for now and upgrade to a wider Farsports and 28mm in a few months.

So Focus have come to the party and are shipping a complete current model Izalco Max 9 frameset - comes with the aero seatpost and stem.

Given I'll have to source a LHS Ultegra mechanical shifter anyway ($300) I'm considering building this up with a 105 Di2 groupset (about $1500).

Possibly dumb, but I figure I can ride it for a while and that'll bring more on the used market. Most likely not enough to get the $1200 back but it'd be nice to try a decent aero bike for a while anyway.

What are the odds on me breaking two completely different generations of the same bike? Probably best not to answer that.
It looks quite nice - but do they really have that few options in colours?? Very monochrome from looking at the Focus website.

Edit: Canyon has my actual bike in Zwift:

As a warranty frame the colour will be 'surprise' anyway so I'm not too worried!

I suspect in the long run I'll either sell this one or use it on the flats with a separate climbing setup. It'd be a perfect race setup with an aero frame and 105 Di2 if I ever get back to that.

Of course we know the answer is always N+1.

Sounds like a better outcome. For the few hundred dollars more I would consider Ultegra for a few reasons outside of weight.

1) 3rd buttons on the shifters you can assign to control your head unit etc.
2) Can run satellite shift buttons (probably not a huge deal)
3) Servo wave brakes
4) Much slimmer front derailleur.

Personally I would run a mix, Ultegra shifters, brakes, FD. 105 for the rest of the build. 105 cranks aren't glued so shouldnt come apart.

Yeah, good call. There's all of $220 between the pair 105 and Ultegra shifters.

That'll leave me with Ultegra shifters, DuraAce discs, DuraAce crankset and 105 derailleurs. The full set!
