1775km YTD.
About half the distance I'm normally accustomed to but enjoying what I am doing.
To be honest riding is more pleasant without the self-imposed pressure to cycle as often as possible.
Plenty active with other physical pursuits so the fitness level is still very good. Maybe not highly trained athletic good but way, way higher than the average Norm.

There is still much to do.
I have my sights set on the Around the Bay in a Day (135km) in October, and after that, the Bendigo Double Century (modified route/320k), State Library Melb., to Charing Cross Bendigo and return/weekend — first time since the last ride on a Cecil Walker Super Road custom bike in 1985). Another opportunity to work up a very decent speed coming back on the Lancefield-Romsey Road (1985 4-rider line speed was 76km/h over 3km).
How so very, very much Melbourne has changed since 1985! The City Square is long ago gone.
This photo below shows the Bendigo Double Century Group in 1985 — a big turn-out indeed.

Caught a decent dose of Covid at the beginning of the month and took me 3 weeks to feel well enough to get back on the bike.

In fact nothing at all.
I got the winter time blues.
Cleaned and lubed my favourite bike last weekend.
I feel a flicker of enthusiasm but waiting for overnight low temps to rise. It's 1.6 at the moment.
Something like 20 degrees would be nice, so I should be good to go by December, ...2070.
This is my longest break in 15 years. It isn't doing me any harm. Plenty active, no weight gain and I have every intention of returning with a refreshed attitude, and slow weak legs. Oh well.

A modest 606km for September.
I re-started cycling mid August with 265km to kick things off.
The annual goal has been shot to ribbons. I'm not interested in the YTD figure at the moment.

It's interesting you should say that.
Around the time I turned sixty (about 18 months ago) I became much less focused on cycling performance, distance and speed. These days I'm more concerned about overall health and all round general activity levels.
An hour and a half on the bike is a typical ride, 3-5 days a week, with perhaps one longer ride of about two and a half hours in the mix.
Daily half to hour long dog walks and part time moderately physical work all combine to keeping me fit and agile without getting too tired or sore, usually.
But I do wake up a bit stiff and cranky sometimes. (Like I am now. )

I guess what you are saying there Tim, is that Zwift is worse than not riding at all. I am rapidly reaching that stage too. Currently just a smidge better than not riding. Enjoyable? No.Tim wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 7:27 amJune total, um, not very much.

I too have had my longest period off the bike since commencing riding some 15 years ago with 3 months with prostrate issues and associated surgery and after getting back going again a bout of Covid laid me low for a while.Tim wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 7:14 amIt's interesting you should say that.chriso_29er wrote:...I now set my goals on hours.

Tried the village gym recumbent but hated indoor riding of any kind. Also have a cheap smart trainer which is gathering dust in the shed.
If I am not riding outside with a few retiree mates on a regular basis I become a very grumpy old man. Fortunately weather conditions in Qld over winter are not too cold so no excuse for not riding all year.
I too walk most days with my wife (don't have a dog ) which is beneficial for us both.
Fortunately for both of us I am back pedalling again and in a happy state of mind.

Couldn't have put it better myself.
I think I've said it before but enjoyment is the biggest motivator keeping me active.
I love outdoors cycling, particularly with one or two good friends. Thoroughly enjoy walking my big skinny black dog (the greyhound). And don't mind working part-time hours as they're a good bunch of people and I like the social contact.

Good luck with the post surgery prostate recovery. There's nothing like a health problem to dampen the outlook. The prostate issue has struck quite a few of my immediate circle including close family. It can either be very little or no problem at all, or very very serious. All the best. The treatment options are tons better than they were a decade or two past.
Being in "a happy state of mind" is such an elusive yet simple way of (sometimes) being.
I've learnt that a simple approach to eating, activity and social interaction works wonders.
A big black energetic dog also helps keep The Black Dog at bay too, especially as I live at home alone these days.

Still 2000k behind original goal schedule but the revised goal of 6000k looks achievable
