+- 15mm reach isn't really a deal breaker, as there are so many options to change reach e.g stem size, different reach bars. Stack is harder to adjust for without either running heaps of spacers or aggressively angled stems.Mr Purple wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 8:34 amAgreed.
I compared the geometry of the 2024 Defy and TCR with my 2017 Izalco Max and the reach is all of 3mm shorter on the Defy, though the stack is 26mm higher. Interestingly the TCR is 5mm longer and 13mm higher.
I suspect it won't make a huge amount of difference which one I choose.

It depends on your starting point. If you are already running a short stem on a bike with less reach than the Defy then it might be a deal breaker.

I'm shelling out for a full bike fit prior to any purchase this time because while I can compare the geometry to my old bikes, I have no idea if that's actually correct or not.
Far easier to have something closer to ideal fit to start off with.

Nothing like a bike which fits perfectly.

Because I have a Kickr Bike now I imagine I could theoretically set it up to mimic the fit of any frameset I choose. Is there an easy way of doing that without resorting to GeometryGeeks and a tape measure?g-boaf wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 10:09 pmI have done similar before with a TT frame that was purchased from overseas (from the Garmin cycling team). It was possible to recreate the fit on a trainer bike and then spend an hour trying to ride that and see if I was comfortable and if I could generate power.
Very much recommend this approach.
Mind you I still have another 5 weeks until I'm allowed outdoors so there's no hurry. I'll get comfortable on the gravel bike first, get the bike fit, and trial the bike fit on the Kickr before buying anything. Should give me plenty of time to get it right.

I've only matched my kickr bike to the roadbike (which I already have) by way of the setup app, photos then using the adjustments the Wahoo app suggests then tweaking them.
Replicating a bike I don't have, not sure about.

This does not surprise me. I set mine up to my height and inside leg as per the manual and it was an absolute mile off.
I'll have to fiddle with it. Also no amount of carbon paste can stop the D-shaped seatpost from sliding from 90mm to 85mm. Why the heck would you use a D-shaped seatpost in a) a round hole, and b) on an indoor trainer? Aerodynamics? Weight saving? Stupid thing.

I ended up tightening it using an allen key. hasn't moved sinceMr Purple wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 11:49 amThis does not surprise me. I set mine up to my height and inside leg as per the manual and it was an absolute mile off.

wonder if a standard seat post would fit in there

Yes, a round post will fit. I tightened mine with an Allen key and it still slips - I suspect there's just no way of getting enough torque on it for that height. It always drops down to 85mm but no further which is weird.

Stopped by Giant and checked out the TCR today. They seem very nice. Looking at the Ultegra Di2 Advanced Pro which would be low 7kgs with carbon everything and the separate seatpost. Can't really see the point spending extra on the SL with exactly the same components and fiddly integrated seatpost.
Also dropped off the Focus to the local dealer. They agree the snapped seatstay caused the crash and that Focus will likely issue a warranty replacement frame, likely the current Izalco Max.
Bit of a dilemma there. Obviously I could build the new frameset up with my existing Ultegra 11 speed mechanical but would also require new bars and a left hand shifter due to the crash. Having said that I'd be building it up for sale anyway, because after an Izalco Max tried to kill me I don't exactly feel safe riding another one. Or I could just accept and sell the warranty frame.
Thoughts?

My thought as well. The framesets go for about $4k new. It's almost not worthwhile adding in a worn Ultegra 11 speed mechanical groupset in the mix, might as well let someone else build it up as they like.
Plus that way I can use the old Ultegra groupset for something that can only be described as 'dumb'. I feel like I need some sort of steel frameset in my life.

Apart from the alloy bars and lack of PM it’s about perfect for me.
