I have a pair of Shimano road shoes rp3 with Shimano cleats, for some reason they don't make the click sound when i clip in.
Its a welcoming sound to know you are attached, and your foot wont fly off at an inopportune moment.
My other Shimano click, my bonts click, i have swapped the cleats with the other shoes and they are fine.
Anyone care to guess the cause.
I have had them for a few years, and cannot remember if this has always been so.
My other shoes are carbon soled, these are plastic,.
Inane question

Something on the sole that means the clamps can't quite close?

Could be something as silly as different resonance of the sole materials.
Or could be a different level of wear on that particular pair of cleats.

I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

I experienced similar with Shimano road shoes. My Time RXS cleats clicked into the pedals with more of a dull thud than a crisp click when using those Shimano shoes (can't rember which model - circa 2009)
Mavic and Sidi road shoes with same RXS cleats really make a snappy noise when clipping in / out.
I'd also suggest sole/ shoe build materials. The Shimano shoes had a more flexible sole which I have no doubt was a plastic compound - where as my Sidi and mavic shoes are carbon soles.
I prefer the reassurance of the crisp, sharp clip in noise rather than a thud but that is prob. a learned preference as I rode with the Mavic shoes for a few years before I tried anything else.

3rd class cycling is always better than 1st class walking

The cleats click reassuringly on other shoes, so itsnot the cleats.
I also am leaning towards the plastic soles
