Raised reversed stems

Postby Jim321 » Thu Sep 19, 2024 2:10 pm

I've been looking for a way to make my 2016 Scott Spark more comfortable on longer cross-country riding, and just fitted a set of Ergon grips.

It's better but I want more comfort.

I had some great advice on how to raise the bars using a 3rd party stem as mine is already at max height from the factory and doing some more research I came across a review from Seth from Berm Peak of a new product from a champion MTB racer he calls a 'Raised Reversed Stem'.

Seth said he was very (very) surprised how it performed downhill, but having the bars so far back caused some wheel lift when climbing. The maker said Seth just needed to adjust his riding position.

Seems the original cost US$500 and they have already sold out.

Seth's review and others on the maker's site (only watched Seth's so far) https://bemorebikes.com/ Some interesting stuff on the FAQ page as well.

What do people think of this thing?

To me it seems like exactly what I want so now I'm looking for a less expensive way to get it this better position. (open to suggestions)

It seems to be solid enough, but I don't like the look of it - raises the bars by about 150mm which is a lot

It gives a very short effective stem length, which in my experience makes the steering twitchy. I don't profess to have expertise on steering geometry, but 2016 Scott Spark doesn't seem to have the slack steering angle the seller claims this is designed for

If you want to raise the bar height by at 50-100mm, you can get stem risers like this

I don't know how much height you need. A 17° stem can be + or - so if you flip it up it will give you a reasonable raise in the bars.
