I had one on the weekend staying left then as soon as I called out that I was passing on the right, she ran from the far left of the path to off the right hand side of the path.

I'm fairly certain I've had moments where a callout only alerts them to your presence, and they miss what you've said entirely. One of my centre-line encounters was in the middle of a wireless earbuds phone call.

Warning joggers and pedestrians is a lottery, as is passing without warning. Just never know what the reaction is going to be.

Yes I have often thought the same thing.

I think the best is ring the bell (or call out), and be prepared for whatever the pedestrian does. But I always give a "thank you" if they move left.

I sing out "passing on your right" from way back. Mostly works. I slow too.
Only shared path I ride is the local rail trail.
Half of them have headphones in anyway and don't hear. Luckily pedestrian traffic is pretty light.
Dirt roads and roads if it wasn't.

Most of the time, I don't need to say anything.

People (unless they are as deaf as a doorstop) can hear the ratcheting of my freehub as I approach!
As I pass, I might then give them a wave and a thanks or 'morning.
Older folk walking are particularly risky on shared paths where they travel in groups and can inadvertently spliniter and move right into the path of a cyclist, rather than pause and look behind them to plan their movement. Unfortunately many accidents have been witnessed in this scenario with catastrophic injuries to the older, frailer folk.

I had someone with their dog off leash today, coming around a blind corner to be faced with the thing on my side of the path, and its owners on the other side of the path.

I kind of expect it there so I'm not going really quickly.

That's very bad form. They know the dog is going to lunge; They should put it on their left side with a very short leash. The only thing the dog is learning is to chase bikes.

I managed to be the stupid cyclist on Friday morning.

Stopped at the last set of lights before work, and it's a long cycle, so I slip my backpack off to get my swipe card out. I manage that and get it back on, but as I start to clip it back together it all goes wrong. My front wheel had been turned slightly sideways when I was stopped out of habit - unfortunately the road I was on had a slight outward slope, so the wheel turned that way and then rapidly went out from underneath me. The clipped in foot was on the right hand side of the bike, and so I was pulled down with it. Banged up my knee & somehow managed to get a blood blister on the tip of one finger.

Today's far-right-lane walking pedestrian didn't appreciate my suggestion that directly opposite a parked-on-path scooter wasn't the greatest place to stop to give full attention to his phone. Was I being unreasonable there?

Absolutely, not only must wrong side walkers have sacred status, but those using the phone even more so. Sigh… (sarcasm alert)

I encountered Miss Grumpy Must Walk Down The Middle Line again yesterday, with one dog on either side. Totally disrespectful and bad manners. I had to squeeze past on the edge of the path because she won’t move.

I’m sure if I ride on that line she’d blast me rudely.

She is a multiple repeat offender.

I have started stopping dead when I see something like that or a dog off leash. I wait for the "owner" to get a bit closer and then make an appropriate comment (like "if I hit your dog, it may be dead & I am in hospital, so not a great idea, so please control it/put it on a lead") as they walk past. A few weeks ago I did it with an older woman walking 3 dogs, two of which were off lead and wandering the path uncontrolled.

Her response - at first she bit back and then she started yelling "Get away from me, leave me alone. You shouldn't be approaching a solo woman etc etc" - like Say What ???? All the while I was completely stationery on the path straddling my bike while she "walked" past several metres away trying to get control of her dogs.

Most are more moderate in their approach to me stopping dead and pointing out the problem.

I used to do the same. My pack has a waist band pocket perfect height for hitting the carpark entry. Barely needed to stop. Then they decided everyone had to wear high vis in the depot, so I had to use a different entry which required a different approach, but still meant I could use the pocket, just had to stop and wiggle it a bit until the gate started to open.

He was wobbling about on his side of a wide cycleway at slow speed then suddenly turns 90º to the right headed towards my side.

Emergency braking and no harm done, I wasn't going that quickly but that did get my heart rate going.

After that he continued on with seemingly no problems of riding dead straight.

Absolutely - the driving with phone is about as erratic as cycling one-handed while looking at the phone.

Was out for a run the other evening and a bloke was walking his dog on a 10m rope. He was on the separate pedestrian path and the dog was on the far side of the cycle path, rope going all the way across both just waiting to cause an accident. I had a go at him for his stupidity. Of course he said it was all fine
