Tough on Matthew Richardson - sets a world record in the mens sprint but it's not enough to qualify fastest

Yeah and I missed the ride because I wasn't aware of it being televised through the qualifying rounds. :(

I missed the Team Pursuit rides but the Aussies have the fastest qualifier by only .2sec, with the Poms in 2nd. :)

The TP boys have the legend Tim Decker there, he's a genius with this event and they have been coached by him for about 6 years. There will be no mistake in the final. Kell leads off and gets them up to speed and will swing off with 5 to go. Look for Sam to unleash his 1700 watts with a double lap turn at the end to bring them home like he did in the last ride.
You'll never meet nicer more humble unaffected guys than these 4 and they deserve this. They've worked so hard for such a long time. 2.30am Australian time.

Lets hope that all of the stars align and they have recovered from that huge effort last night because the Poms will be gunning for them.

Coming to your local track cycling event?

https://www.cyclesports.jp/topics/11589 ... nt/115899/
https://morecadence.jp/track/165097

For €126,555 for the frame apparently.

The Australian Factor bike is also very very expensive. It is becoming a bit of arms race between the wealthy countries who can provide these bikes.

It's insane but when the bikes are released to the public, they should be a little cheaper, so get ya order in.

Not to diminish a fantastic achievement, but the world record is 3:40.730 The real question is whether the TP gold comet is one that only comes every 20 years?

Richo did at least get to be the F200 world record holder for a few minutes. Imagine if Harrie had gone first and everyone else had to just trail in his wake.

I'm not sure how I feel about the pursuit teams only having 4 riders unless the 5th is riding another event as well. The four riders who actually rode the final are the names that will mostly be remembered, and this seems to be simply discouraging the practice of 'saving' one rider from the early rounds and making the TP into a real endurance event for all four. The men's team had just the four racing in all the events but the squad has always included James Moriarty. However I think that it was a farce that Chloe Moran was riding the sprint events just to make up numbers, solely to be the 5th TP rider. Presumably because we had a spot available in the sprint events that was not being otherwise used. Did we even have an entry for the women's team sprint?

Speaking of which, given the success of the Australian women in the pool and other competitions, it seems that women's cycling in Australia is a bit off the pace, and the numbers racing at J15 and J17 levels don't inspire much confidence for the future at the moment. It seems to me that the pressure to get people to the highest levels comes from below.

For example, the Victorian Junior Road championships are on this weekend. There are only 10 J17 girls entered for the road race, and 3 of them are from interstate. It's even worse for J15 where there are only 8 entries and 4 of them are likely to be dropped in the first 5 minutes (the course has a hard start). Typically it is the same girls riding in the track events too. Whilst the top few in each are decent bike riders, they are not getting enough proper racing experience. I think it is a bit better in the warmer states, but it's still not enough. I haven't seen qualifying events at track nationals for the girls yet, however it is routine for the boys.

Hmm I've drifted off the topic of Paris 2024. I am always excited to see good racing at high levels, and I hope to see more gold jerseys riding well.

Cheers,

Cameron

There are only a few Clubs that have very good Junior programes for the up U17 and below and that's where part of the problem is.

We've had good Team Pursuit Teams in between those years but haven't had the form for when the Olympics have been on. As far as the girls go, we haven't had any decent sprinters since Anna Meares retired and that also includes at the State levels.

Oh and I just remembered, there was the handle bar break at the last Olympics when they were just as good.

It's hard to work out what actually happened. I thought something broke the way he was sitting on his top tube after the mishap, but it appears he just lost control.

There are reports that his legs just gave out and he slipped off the seat and because he was on the tri bars he couldn't get back up.

9km/h better than my best sprint speed - 61km/h on outdoor velodrome on fixed gear bike. I was 60kg at the time.

They can have their top speeds, I'll keep my going up hills quickly. ;)
