Anyway. It's sort of funny at this point. Though just for once I'd like to have something fail in a way that someone says 'oh yes, that does happen'. Because mine all seem to be something no-one's ever seen.

Are you out of the saddle a lot?
You put out plenty of power but are not heavy. Quite a few failures given your light weight.
I am just guessing lots of hard efforts out of the saddle that are significantly less smooth than seated efforts, whilst going for koms.
Never seen anyone chew out rear tyres remotely as quickly, again related to out of the saddle max efforts it seems. Applying power whilst standing is just harder on the gear probably.
Staying seated is less outright power but it can generally be held a lot longer if you sit and spin.

Hopefully I can dial out some of the biomechanical issues that make me do it with a bike fit.

Picked up the Kickr Shift today.

Why did no-one tell me about these earlier? I swear I've gained 20W just by losing the noise.

Barely fit in the back of the Mini and it took me a while to work out exactly how Di2 shifters work, but it's fantastic. Seems heavy enough for me not to break as well.

I've paid for 12 months earlier this year. I'm not training for anything at the moment, so not overly concerned. The trainer is just there for recovery right now

Never been a gamer. Sitting there drenched in perspiration watching a tv screen compares poorly with riding for real.

Though Fulgaz gets me an extra 60-80km a week I wouldn’t otherwise get, at an intensity that is difficult outdoors. Plus no-one can run me over in the garage.

The options are:

1. Complain about indoor riding, don’t ride and suffer lost fitness
2. Ride outside in bad conditions and get sick or crash
3. Ride indoors when needed, accept it’s not the best but get it done.

I’ll take the third option. I might not enjoy it all the time but I’ll enjoy the first two options even less, and number 2 really, really isn’t good. Been there, done that.

Fulgaz I can ride somewhere different every day. That keeps it interesting, unlike Zwift which is really boring.

Agree with g-boaf and Mr Purple. Zwift helped me train for the stelvio last year. Tomorrow is going to be cold. I have an early appointment and am wfh so will just ride in the garage in the morning. On days like this, it's just easier

They are the two advantages I agree.
cooking pizza for dinner at the moment and got the music playing whilst I cook.
A few tunes I got onto from the sufferfest dvds I used to do when I raced.
May have another go at them, quite enjoyed them in small doses. Yes they were hard.

I submitted a warranty claim on Saturday with Wahoo who just got back to me today.

Their statement is 'this is certainly not common'. We will see how it goes! Didn't really expect much which is why I bought the Kickr Shift over the weekend.

Always the case, not too worried. By the time the slightly dodgy looking retailer actually delivered I've probably already had a week or two of riding anyway.

Did the 'Fulgaz Weekly Challenge' on it today which was 23km/200m starting with a big descent.

So much faster than previous. Mainly because you can dial up the biggest chainrings (53/37 today) and treat it without the barest modicum of mechanical sympathy - virtual shifting at full noise. Took down the guy who usually beats me on these flatter events (because he's riding a dumb trainer maximised at a flat 300W) by a good 40 seconds and averaged 37.8km/hr.

Good choice, I think. Didn't hear even the slightest squeak of protest from it, though I'll need to tighten the cleat mechanism on the pedals because that was the only point of weakness.

So Wahoo are randomly sending me a new Kickr Core now despite the old one being about three years out of warranty.

Excellent customer service, though they do want the old one (presumably to destroy the evidence). I get the impression this may be a '1 of 1' failure.

Hopefully can sell it on the local bicycle Facepage to recoup some of the costs. If anyone in Brisbane or therabouts is keen on a cheap-ish brand new Kickr Core let me know. I'm not even going to unbox it. Comes free with the ugliest bike in the universe to use on it.

My kikr core was 1 year out of warranty, they replaced it because the bearings were grinding.
Very happy with their customer service.

Fortunately a colleague has purchased my unused replacement Kickr Core so I don't have to deal with Facebook. Win/win.

The Fulgaz group is going to hate the Kickr Shift that's replaced it. Because I'm not spinning my legs off on the 50-34 and can dial up ridiculous virtual chainrings they're no longer able to beat me on the flats on the weekly challenge.

This week was 16km/100m. Dialled up a 54T and averaged 4.84W/kg and just under 40km/hr. Should have gone with the 56T I was originally planning! Won by a minute.

Absolutely. I now understand how my one major rival on there was beating me. He has a Kickr Smart Bike.

There's just absolutely no need for mechanical sympathy. I can make FD shifts at 400W if I want now. I reckon I've got him covered!

There is some sort of noise from the bike already but I suspect it's pedal/cleat related. Hopefully don't have to do a warranty claim two weeks in.
