Until driving standards change I won't go anywhere near there. Another location I stay away from is Springwood/Hawkesbury Road from Yarramundi up to Springwood, I've had bad experiences on that road with extremely close passes.
Events like what happened just reinforce that it's better to go nowhere near there, unfortunately.

Yes, the rider has died. He's known in my group of cycling friends and there's been some posts about it.familyguy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 2:55 pmhttps://bicyclingaustralia.com.au/news/ ... ar-sydney/
Unconfirmed report that a rider has since died. Trying to get the source from the person who made the comment.
Forest Way is a local road I've used a few times, but it's always hairy. Narrow 'cycle lane', high speed, careless drivers. 6am in winter is not a great time to be on it, but it's the sole link for many to Akuna, St Ives, and many points north and west, unfortunately.

Eerily I googled for more information, and found information on another fatal crash on the same road the next day, between a road train and a car, in which the road train driver has already been charged. [Correction: the driver of another car has been charged, not the road train driver. Thanks elantra for pointing this out] https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-06-08/ ... /103955060 I was struck by the difference with the car hitting the cyclist, in which apparently no charges have been laid.redsonic wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2024 9:06 pmLooks like a cyclist in WA was killed on Thursday:

I realise that not all collisions are the same and each case has to be assessed on its merits... but c'mon, car and bike were travelling in the same direction on a straight flat road, what do they think happened?

Just need to correct you - yes there was another tragic crash on the day after bicycle rider lost his life BUT….
The person charged is a 38 yr old male who was driving a Toyota SUV.
The Road train driver has not been charged.
2 people in the Suzuki sedan lost their lives.

Well at least there weren't no other vehicles involved, it might've been misjudgement or a medical episode, he wasn't really a young bloke.
RIP to the rider and condolences to his Family and friends.

The passive tone of the report really gets me though. How can a bicycle lose control?

Surprising, I was expecting right up near Mona Vale Rd, but looks further down, sounds like the not uncommon left lane overtake up there gone wrong. Shocking to think his son was just a little way behind https://manlyobserver.com.au/unfortunat ... st-killed/queequeg wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 1:56 pmYes, the rider has died. Few details are available in the media but reports are that she was riding bicycle and was hit by a car, shortly after 11am.

If it was an (illegal) electric motorbike rather than a legally-compliant E-bike (which the media typically fail to distinguish), stuff can much more easily go wrong.

It happened before 5 am in the morning.
I’m not very cluey about cameras (eg Fly 6/12 etc)
But at that hour it would have been very dark.
And bright lights might further diminish the image capturing capability of a camera device.
These days every muggins has to drive with enormously powerful lights in operation.
Unfortunately that does not seem to translate to better driving behaviour. In general.

Geez, that reminds of Alex Simmons vs Rockdale Council.find_bruce wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 8:14 pmDon't think this has been posted previously but Graham Forte, 66, died after crashing into a metal railing at the end of a path in Albany, WA back in March.

I can think of so many examples around me. My current bugbear is a bikeway/walkway between two streets that is 'protected' by a vertical wooden post to chest height that is next to invisible. Particularly because it's almost always fully in shade.
I complained to council a year ago and they wrapped some visibility tape around it that lasted a few weeks. There is no need for this post, and it does not meet any type of visibility standards. To make it worst it's just literally a square wooden post with sharp edges around the top.
Could conceivably kill someone. And they don't seem to care.

That was my thought too. I never thought of Alex as lucky, but I guess in some ways he was. Haven't heard from him in ages, hopefully that's because his performance business is going great.
