Finished today's many and varied activities, the last being a clean of the bike (again... )

Now 9°c and falling at 5.15pm. Crispy skinned Atlantic salmon with potato au gratin and baby beans being banged up in the air frier. But will need the heater on shortly. Not getting up at the crack of dawn tomorra'... Sleep-in time!!

Yeah, I've been piking it of late seeing as it is so cold. I generally head out at about 11am and try to ride 2 days a week and it is looking like it will still be less than 10 tomorrow. Might just have to put up with the cold, can always pedal harder to create heat. I also ride on Tuesdays when I do voluntary work fixing bikes but I do that on the much heavier steel bike so easier to create heat with effort!

Further up here on the East Coast it is warmer but punctuated by cold gusty winds and intermittent showers.

Murwillumbah 11-18 degrees today
Stanthorpe (100 miles west) 6 - 14 degrees
Sunshine Coast (100 miles north) 14 - 21 degrees

A bit chilly in Brisbane this morning - according to BOM, my suburb was reading 0.8°, feels like -1.1° at 7:11am. By bike computer was reading 3° at 7:30am.

That’s unusually cold for the River City in the Sunshine State.

South of the border fence it wasn’t as bad as that.
I’m sure that my car outside temperature measurement device is more accurate than what the weather app on the iPhone says it is.
My car indicated that it was 6 degrees C in Murwillumbah at 6.30 am and 8 degrees in Kingscliff at 7 am.
The iphone said that it was 5 degrees in Murbah and 10 degrees in Kingy.
What nonsense - it felt very nearly as cold in Kingscliff as it was in Mur’bah !

But tonight I reckon it’s the coldest night that it’s been for a few years. Significantly colder than last night.

I remember a rather intense cold spell exactly 40 yrs ago. It went down to zero in Ipswich and light snow fell around Toowoomba.
A bit further south around Stanthorpe the snow was much heavier.
Heavy enough to close the highway and most local roads for about a day until it melted.
Quite unusual in Qld.

One of those days that feeds Northerners' perception of "wet" Melbourne: gloomy day, and it has been raining pretty much constantly for near-on 24 hours, although in traditional manner, only lightly.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Similar to Melbourne but 300km to the East. Rain, rain, rain, and more to come.

It has been quite an unusual night. When I went to bed last night the temp was 8 degrees then steadily climbed to 12 at around 5.00am.
Everything seems arse-about.
My nicely ordered world is falling apart. :D

Similar bizarro-weather in Ringwood area (Melbourne eastern suburbs): was about 9.5 deg at 1:30pm, climbed to 11.5 at 1am, then down to 10 at 7am. Freaky.

We have in Sydney about 14ºC where I am middle of the day. I'm sitting in home office with two Mac Pro computers doing work and they are doing second duty as room heaters.

Not liking these very cold temperatures.

This morning bike computer read 2°C.

VERY windy in Brisbane right now - with the expected wind chill. Archerfield feels like 6° (actual 17°) at 1:20pm.

Classic snow pic- kudos !

According to reports tonight on social media, light snow has been reported on the Great Dividing Range at Spicer’s Peak, east of Warwick in South East Queensland.

History records that snowfalls (usually light) typically occur in the these areas once every few years but this is the first report of any snow in SE Qld since 2019.

As yet there has been no snowfall reported in Stanthorpe, where historically the heaviest snowfalls in this region have occurred.

9 years ago I spent 14 hours in the car travelling to Glen Innes and back to see snow for the first time. Doesn't look like this event is going to match that, but it sure is cold enough. 1.5 degrees up here, but only a small amount of frost to go with it.

The westerlies are the killer in Brisbane at the moment.

My westward commute home from work on Saturday was an average 26.5km/hr into a 27km/hr headwind and 189W. Yuck!

They had snow yesterday at Guyra, which is 60 km south of Glen Innes.
But Guyra is significantly greater altitude than Glen Innes.

As you would know, in SE Qld and northern NSW we don’t get cool weather with westerly winds every winter.
And usually, if it happens it is a bit later in the winter.
The cold August westerlies at Ekka time in Brisbane are legendary.

Many many years ago I recall a driving trip from Brisbane to Perisher ski fields in NSW.
It was September school holidays and reports were not promising for good snow.
Even less promising when I stopped for lunch at Grafton (NSW) and the temperature was 30 degrees !

But exactly 24 hrs later, (after an overnight stay somewhere) while driving through Jindabyne the snow began to fall. And as you can guess that day there was a big snowfall in the high country at Perisher !

Rain, gales and squalls, cold, grey and dim. Still, it's washing day! Of course I'm not riding in such storm and tempest!!

Loud crash and bang at 2.15 this morn': ye olde telly antenna has broken off, now on back lawn in tangled bits, and it can stay!
Ditching the elevated type antenna for a squat UHF that sits only 70cm off the roof. Nothing can be done until Monday on account of the weather making roof access too dangerous. Oh well, at least streaming on the computers still works! :D

23mm of rain yesterday afternoon and overnight to 9am.

Biggest rainfall here since back in January and the first time our small dam has had water in it since Nov. 23.

The weather is rare in so far as it's doing what I remember as a child in Melbourne - blowing in hard from the SW straight off the Southern Ocean.

Zero chance I'm even opening the bike shed door let alone reaching for the lycra thermal tights. Local weather station has the wind chill factor making it feel like 1.5 deg C out in the screeching wind............... no thanks!

Silver lining is that a week after this rain ceases my local gravel tracks and back roads will be packed down smooth and tight!
