However the new Madone is available to order - and replaces both the old Madone and Emonda. Spec list and price list available which is news to me because I didn't think it had even been released yet!
SL 105di2 version is $6500 and 8.13kg in M/L. SL Ultegra Di2 7.88kg and $8500, SLR Ultegra 7.13kg and $12k odd. Pretty darn aero, cheaper than the outgoing model and a lot lighter.
Didn't order (need a bike fit first anyway) but looks tempting. Especially if the market stays flat and 2024 models are $1-2k cheaper in 6 months anyway. Colours are a bit limited though - essentially just black or white in the SL versions.
Should I be worried my local bike shop recognises me? Walked out with the $20 bidon holder I went there for at least.

Yep, that's a good choice - I had the heads up on that one before it was released.

The Madone SL Ultegra Di2 is on-par with the 2024 GIANT TCR Dic 0_AR, which I think is discounted to around $6,400 (?). The 2025 model is about to be spruiked, but expect that to cost over $10K...
There has been some negativity of perceptions and servicing of TREK road bikes; this was not known to me when I was doing my model research. Might be down to individual experiences, IDK.
I was never concerned nor influenced about perceptions or actualities of "aero" performance.

Unless TREK tells you that explicitly, the Émonda is still very much available in many flavours and prices, and the price will be rising considerably; one of them is almost $19,000... The model I had an interest in, the Émonda SLR 6 AXS, was replaced in February by the Émonda SLR 7 AXS...with a correspondingly higher price.

Like all manufacturers, TREK has periodic model run-outs and (sometimes rapid) replacements, just like GIANT, Cervélo and Pinarello. Statements about discontinuations on forums etc., should be treated with a grain of salt and left to direct enquiries with the retailers or TREK.

Per the original post by Mr Purple, this is not the first time I've heard of Trek dealers saying in recent months that the new Madone will replace the Emonda.
Was interested to find out more about that conversation. Mr Purple can you add anything?

Anyone know what that is about?

There will be another bike to rule them all.
Bye bye Emonda.

The Trek dealer had access to the new website - the only models I saw were the ones above but there were plenty more.
Generally a lower price point - I assume there will be a 105 mechanical at $4-5k. As I said SLR Ultegra Di2 was $12.5k (I think) and I suspect there will be a Di2 DuraAce as well as some SRAM models.
SLR models have integrated cockpit and come standard with aero bottles and cages, which are a $250 option on SL models. Downtubes are slimmer than current Madone, and they all have the whacky seatpost setup. The shop had one in stock and were assembling it this weekend.
Why do I know this? I sort of feel like I shouldn’t yet!

That groupset is the equal to SRAMs Red E1 — wireless, consistently accurate shifts annnnnnnd — with a level of detail and finish even sexier to swoon over than SRAM (if holding a latté-sipping crowd to shiny parts is your thing... )
The $12,500 model...I would think that is SRAM at that price point (?), or optioned as such, possibly RED-equipped; seems a bit odd to find Ultegra Di2 at the $ level. A size S Émonda assembled in the rack next to mine was Ultegra Di2 with an $8,700 tag, albeit with bidon cages, pedals and the customer's swap-out of rounded bars for flat aeros, pushing the price up (BUT... something later went akimbo and the aero bars were removed; something about routing??).
TREK seatposts are kind of ... odd. On the Émonda and Domane they are extensions of the seat tube, so cutting is not an option (but I suppose specialists probably could cut the seat tube to size?). The shop wasn't going to cut an otherwise suitable Émonda seatpost in an attempt to fit me! (I needed a S or XS frame; the Émonda was M. )

Probably optimistic although the prices do seem to be coming down a bit - the current model SRAM Red Madone starts at $15k. The current DuraAce Di2 is $18k.CmdrBiggles wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 4:41 pmThe $12,500 model...I would think that is SRAM at that price point (?), or optioned as such, possibly RED-equipped; seems a bit odd to find Ultegra Di2 at the $ level. I'm generally not a fan of proprietary seatposts but I am now a fan of bikes being bought at the bike shop nearest to me, with a lifetime frameset warranty. Will probably change my mind about 15 times before buying though, an Aethos remains tempting.

Quite like it - the Silver/Red/Black colourway in the SL7 model looks excellent.
Few weird things though - starting by the fact I’d be moving from an XS to a Medium! Also 420mm bars in that model though they will substitute my preferred 380mm. Gearing is a bit odd too - not sure why an aero focussed race bike comes with 50-34 and 11-34.
Something to think about. Bike fit first.

I keep looking at the new Madone and flip flopping from it being a great all-rounder and decent value for the SL Ultegra (compared to the Tarmac SL8) to it being a heavy climbing bike and a poor aero bike. I think it's because its aero claims all come down to the aero bottle setup, fit a round bottle on the SL and it's probably no longer all that aero.

I think that will continue. I’m in no hurry, it’ll probably wait until next year (or two more RD cables) at this rate.
I’m not paying retail for anything!

For $25K you can ride away with a Pinarello DOGMA F or X...
Well, if you've got that sort of money to throw away on a pushbike, maybe consider giving some to people who live rough and hard to go some way to improving their lot (I do, and I'm happy to continue doing so).

In all honesty, the cost of bikes and equipment is really getting out of hand for those that enjoy the sport and manufactures with how they keep changing things will keep the costs high all the time. (That's my rant on bike costs)

Agreed you can pay stupid money, but they have come down post Covid and with people struggling with higher interest rates.foo on patrol wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 2:47 amI refuse to pay stupid $$$$$ for a new bike. $250000 on a bike for coffee shop rides is just bloody crazy. I agree totally.
Bike shops are profitable enterprises, and big-ticket bikes are the creme de la creme of making a very decent buck.
Carbon frames have been around long enough to come down in price, yet they are continually rising, supposedly with each new iteration of "aero" design. It is no longer "space age material" either. Even component groupsets should not be commanding such ridiculous prices. Fancy paying $670 for a SRAM Force rear derailleur!? Remember thems good ol' days 40 years ago when a DuraAce rear derailler cost about $80.
I paid close to $9,000 for a fully-fitted/progressively optioned and added TCR.
And yep, like myriad others out there, for coffee shop rides ... but that will change come the Spring! For now, just keeping the wheels turning and the waistline trim.
Did anybody notice the absence of cabled transmission bikes on the Tour De France? All seem to be SRAM RED or DuraAce from the camera's stickybeaking at the bikes on Stages.

I've seem some comments in other places in threads like this where the cost of road bikes is being discussed, and bike store owners say their margins are as thin as ever.
So anecdotally, it's the manufacturers who are benefitting.
