Yep, he is someone that I could not take a liking too. He never seemed happy or willing mingle but expected people to revere him. There were warnings out years ago that he needed to get his act together but he seemed more interested in partying and generally being a dick than securing his future.

Yeah right, he couldn't ride a straight line if his life depended on it and he was the same on the Track. At his best and with Mark Renshaw as his lead out man, he couldn't complain about being out of position or having a good lead into a sprint.

Don't need to hold your line that well when nobody can hold your wheel
Could when he needed to though during the record number of stage victories.
Going to struggle to get another I reckon at near 40 years old but will be good if he does

Should make the time cut this stage. Be screwed in the alps it looks like.
Still hoping he gets one more but it will need to be a flat stage if it happens. He has never been a climbed but I don't remember him being that sh ite.

That is the hardest climb of the stage but there is a few left.
Vomiting isn't positive.

I've never said that he wasn't good but he can only win from those that are there at the time. I still stand by my comment, that he is past his prime. He had a good leed into it and when the UAE rider pulled to the left and opened the gap for him to get out he was presented with a gift.

At least he was humble about the win and said thank you to his Team for sacrificing a lot for him, so that elevates him a bit in my eyes.

Total career wins
Lots of sprinters in the list which makes sense but Cav, Cippo, Zabel, Greipel and Petacchi notched up most of their victories on pancake flat finishes courtesy of a lead out train. Thats cool, but not as impressive as others on the list, like:
Anquetil at number 20 was a Time Trial specialist, couldn't sprint for peanuts. 5 times won the TDF and 9 times GP des nations.
Rik van Looy won everything from World road title, grand tour stages, every monument, and a heap of track races including 6 days (one teamed with my uncle in 1958). He was a tremendous all rounder.
Eddy of course, was the ultimate all rounder.

I dont think anyone would disagree with you. We all agree he is PAST HIS PRIME but managed somehow to win one more.

Would I be a conspiracy theorist if I suggested:
1.The other sprinters let Cav start the sprint first even though they were very close to the line
2. Tour organisers stand to get a lot of great publicity if Cav wins
3. Buying a victory has happened before in cycling eg Reg Harris aged 54 beat Trevor Bull for the National Sprint Title in 1974

Hence my question. I have always read that He topped 526 or so. That list only gives him 276. Why?

I like a good conspiracy theory as much as anyone and could see all of the above happening. However, Foo has not claimed this as yet so must cop it sweet.
