As is, bike will never be a show and shine winner ..."
Ah, right. That's a pass from me then.
(I reckon my XS GIANT TCR frame will fit within this oversize frame quite comfortably!).

Interesting bike at a down-to-earth price.foo on patrol wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 4:23 amOne for the long legged blokes that I just spotted. A 62cm Ultimate.

Some would say it is a “big” bargain and a “huge” value-for-money.
I’m not familiar with that brand (Ultimate).
Has some unusual features.
Reynolds 501 double butted frame - not the more typical 531 steel tubes.
Perhaps it could be that 501 is less flexy when made into such a large frame. Just wondering.
Also it appears to have (nice) 27 inch wheels.
That would be a bit unusual in a late ‘80’s bike.
To be honest I certainly don’t mind a bit of patina is it’s a bike that rides well as you would expect from Shimano 600 gear.
Still looks a lot more elegant than most modern TT bikes ! And probably rides better too

To be honest, I can't remember when the 700cc high pressure wheels came out, so I couldn't comment on that but my thinking is it has a sensible price tag on it as you say.

Cecil Walker has some perforated Concor Supercorsa saddles going cheap: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/19640163115 ... BMmIe26vFj
As a guide, expect to pay twice that for NOS items. You can get second hand ones for around that price, but they usually come with perforations of a different kind, if you know what I mean.
I've bought one, but I'm not all that confident as they've been listed for $180 recently but always 'item not available' heading the listing. So I'll let you know if it arrives.

Even at $250 that's a borderline proposition. You'd spend almost that much again on Autosol to get it presentableLG wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 8:59 pmThis poor old Colnago looks like it's had a very tough life https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/15621487238 ... SwIvtmSKfW

The $175 Univega Conquest from the same seller is also a worthwhile easy project for someone with the timeP!N20 wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 2:17 pmShimano 600 groupset for $100 seems OK to me: https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/inala/b ... 1324782253

I did check the sellers profile while that listing was active and there was another identical one showing as "sold". Possibly they just list it for a short time, mark as sold and then relist to try and push it up the search results?WyvernRH wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 3:47 pmWow! Gone already... Wow, it would take a brave person to disagree with your assessment of that listing.LG wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 1:33 pmDoesn't get much better than this https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/north-h ... 1325195808
And the price ?
Well, as they say, if you need to ask then you probably can’t afford it
