How strict are Qantas with bike box dimensons?
Flying to Japan in a couple of weeks with bike.
Qantas state L140 W30 H80 Qantas bike boxes.
My box from bike shop is a little longer will this be a problem at check in?
L145 H82 W 22.5
Box still adds up to 250cm total same as Qantas.
Some times you can get the wrong person at check in
cheers

Yes you can.
With its engines primed for profit against an increasingly disparaging view by the public, expect a closer look at anything that remotely seems a skerrick bigger than their stated dimensions.
Have you contacted anybody in Qantas to get a definitive answer?

Thanks for the reply. Spoke to Qantas and they weren't willing to commit "ask at airport"
worse case will have to buy the "Qantas Box" and repack
Qantas are now very sensitive to profit at all costs, keeping shareholders happy over customers

Ugh—! See their shares tumble into the red today. Geewillakers, wonder why!?
An airport luggage hall isn't the time or place to unpack something you've doubtless spent almost a day packing carefully from your own box to the stuff that the Big Q offers. It's a sticky situation, fraught with risk (e.g. theft of something, anything at all). You'll get to Japan, hopefully with the faithful treadlie, but you're going to have to box a few people into corners. And the folk at Qantas are not particularly fond of being boxed (oops, I have punned... )...
